Job DescriptionThe Assistant Controller – Revenue, Joint Ventures, and Compliance is responsible for leading key accounting and control activities within DCS Americas. This role owns revenue controls and technical accounting oversight, joint venture accounting, compliance and audit coordination. Reporting to DCS-Americas Controller and working alongside other Assistant Controllers, this role partners closely with the Regional Operations Finance teams, Corporate Accounting, GBS and Internal & External auditors to ensure accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and consistent application of accounting policies across the organization.
This position will offer some flexibility for hybrid work schedules to include both in-office presence and telecommute/virtual work and can be based from a variety of major AECOM Office locations in the West and Central Regions.
Key Responsibilities
Revenue Controls & Technical Accounting
Oversee revenue control processes to ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and internal policies.Provide accounting guidance to project teams related to:Revenue recognitionEstimates at Completion (EAC)Contract modifications and claimsPerformance obligationsMonitor and assess Revenue at Risk, working with project and finance teams to ensure compliance with applicable accounting guidance and policies.Monitor & Ensure compliance with EAC policiesSupport complex or non-routine revenue-related technical accounting matters.Joint Venture Accounting
Review accounting considerations for new joint ventures, including assessment of accounting treatment and consolidation conclusions.Review, record, and analyze the financial impact of consolidated joint ventures, including eliminations and equity activity.Coordinate with Joint Venture accounting team, Regional Finance teams, and Corporate Accounting to ensure accurate and timely reporting.Support audit requests and technical accounting reviews related to joint venture activity.Compliance, Controls & Audit Ownership
Own day-to-day coordination and execution of internal and external audit activities within assigned scope, including preparation of audit support and resolution of findings.Ensure compliance with SOX requirements, internal policies, and procedures, including support for narrative updates, control documentation, testing, and remediation.Partner with Internal Audit and Corporate Accounting to evaluate control design and operational effectiveness.Identify control gaps and drive remediation and process improvement initiatives.Escalate significant risks, deficiencies, or judgmental matters to the Controller as appropriate.Collaboration & Leadership
Partner with other Assistant Controllers to ensure consistent application of accounting policies across DCS Americas.Act as a subject-matter expert for compliance, revenue controls, and joint ventures within the organization.Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activitiesParticipate in cross-functional initiatives and projects assigned by the Controller.QualificationsMinimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance plus at least 12 years of progressive accounting experience in a large, complex, or multi-national environment, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.At least 4 years of leadership experienceExperience with revenue recognition, project accounting, and technical accounting matters.Experience with joint venture accounting and consolidation.Strong knowledge of US GAAP, SOX, and internal controls.Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate effectively with peers and leadership.Preferred Qualifications:
