About this RoleThe ComTran Group, Inc. is seeking an Assistant Controller to support the Controller in overseeing the company's accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, budgeting, and compliance functions. ComTran is a fiber and utility construction contractor, and this role is central to managing the financial complexities of project-based work in a fast-moving construction environment.
This position plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records, managing month-end close processes, supporting strategic financial initiatives, and supervising accounting staff. The Assistant Controller will also serve as backup to the Controller when needed.

What You'll Do Process weekly payrollAssist in managing daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, credit card receipt management, and job costingSupport month-end and year-end closing processes to ensure timely and accurate reportingMaintain and improve internal controls and accounting proceduresEnsure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), company policies, and applicable regulationsAnalyze financial data and provide recommendations to improve operational efficiency and profitabilitySupervise and mentor accounting staff, providing training and performance feedbackParticipate in system implementations, process improvements, and special projectsServe as backup to the Controller for financial reporting and department leadership What You'll BringEducation
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferredExperience
3+ years of progressive accounting experienceConstruction or project-based accounting experience strongly preferred; fiber, telecom, or utility construction experience is a plusKnowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirementsExperience with month-end close processesProficiency in accounting software and Microsoft ExcelExperience with ERP systems (Viewpoint Spectrum preferred)Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skillsExcellent communication and interpersonal abilitiesAbility to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environmentHigh level of integrity and attention to detailPhysical Requirements
