Yes County Albany Street Address 540 Broadway City Albany State NY Zip Code 12207 Duties Description Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Staff & Director of External Affairs, as well as the Executive Director, the Assistant Communications Specialist assists in handling and coordinating agency communications with the public, regulated entities, other governmental entities, and within the agency itself. While much of the Commission’s work is confidential, the Assistant Communications Specialist must balance the confidentiality requirements of the Commission's work with the public's access to information about the Commission and the extensive filings maintained by the Commission that are available to members of the public and the media. In addition, the Assistant Communications Specialist shall assist with the Commission’s mandate to provide guidance to those under its jurisdiction through publications and its educational program. The Assistant Communications Specialist’s duties include various activities to position the Commission in a positive manner to media, the public, stakeholders, and other audiences through such activities as, but not limited to:-Developing social media campaigns, posts, and graphics and methods to analyze effectiveness of social media that will expand upon the agency’s current social media engagement including creating videos.-Creating graphics for and laying out various agency publications including the Annual Report. -Drafting press releases, newsletters, e-blasts, fact sheets and other external-facing communications to members of the communities the Commission regulates and conducting other similar duties when needed.-Preparing responses and acknowledgements to Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) inquiries.-Compiling publicly available records, conforming to record requests from the media and members of the public.-Maintaining a FOIL processing log. -Coordinating with the Chief of Staff and/or Executive Director to research and develop information for responses to FOIL and media inquiries. -Assisting in creating proactive communications strategies and materials regarding Commission policies, regulations, initiatives, and trainings. -Maintaining annual, monthly, and weekly social media calendars. -Designing, recommending, and creating new content for the Commission website and other relevant social media platforms, including videos.-Preparing analytical reports on social media and website activity. -Communicating policies, procedures, and actions of the Commission to the media, public, and other interested parties while maintaining the confidentiality of Commission matters as required by law.-Coordinating across all divisions of the agency in developing comprehensive programs for communications with the public, media, and other interested parties, including, but not limited to: issuing news releases, reports, and various publicly accessible filings; creating graphics and videos; web site development and management; and outreach programs.-Assisting in advising executive staff and commissioners on strategies for promoting Commission policies and actions via numerous communications platforms.-Assisting in managing responses to inquiries concerning the Commission from the general public, students, “good government” groups, elected officials, other State agencies, employee organizations, and others.-Reviewing media reports for information regarding Commission activities and providing news clips and other material to appropriate Commission personnel for information and review.-Updating and maintaining contact lists including for reporters, stakeholders, and agency liaisons. -Assisting with the Commission’s education program, including publications and training sessions. -Assisting in preparing materials for dissemination outside the agency, including but not limited to the annual report, specialized publications, graphic and audiovisual materials, videos, slide presentations, online and instructor–led trainings, screen casts and various instructional publications.-Performing other duties as determined by the Chief of Staff and/or Executive Director. Minimum Qualifications College degree and some experience in social media, communications, or public relations required, which may include internships. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Program and Canva. Proficiency in other desktop publishing and graphic design software, as well as experience creating compelling videos from PowerPoint and other software is preferred.
