Western Kentucky University, a member of Conference USA and a Football Bowl Subdivision NCAA member institution, seeks to hire an individual for the position of Softball Assistant Coach.  This is a 12-month, full-time position.  This position will report directly to the Women's Softball head coach.  Applicants must have a commitment to and responsibility for adhering to all rules and regulations of WKU, Conference USA and the NCAA.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The following duties are customary for this position, but are not to be construed as all-inclusive.  Duties may be added, deleted, and assigned based on management discretion and institutional needs.

 

Coach practice sessions and workouts Assist with coaching responsibilities during athletic events Assist with the recruitment of prospective student-athletes Demonstrate working knowledge of overall and sport-related NCAA compliance Plans coaching and practice sessions in accordance with NCAA and conference regulations Coach team members individually and in groups, and demonstrate game techniques Develops and implements game strategy and position assignments Track academic progress of student-athletes Build relationships within the community Attend preparatory meetings and implement strategies resulting from these meetings Other duties as assigned by the head coach

 

Knowledge and Skills Considered Essential for Success:

Prior baseball or softball playing or coaching experience at the collegiate level Recruiting experience Excellent oral and written communication skills Ability to handle confidential and sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy Strong attention to detail Must be self-motivated and team-oriented Excellent organization, interpersonal, and communication skills Must be willing and able to work evenings and weekends The duties and responsibilities of this position must be performed in a competent manner following the highest standards for leadership, professionalism, integrity, accountability, responsibility, cooperation and customer service

 

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree Prior experience playing or coaching in the sports of baseball or softball at collegiate level
