Position Summary: Assists with the coaching and administrative duties of the NCAA Division I bowling program. Primary function is the proper instruction and teaching of the fundamentals of the sport assigned. Secondary responsibilities include recruiting prospective student athletes as well as monitoring the current student athletes. Other duties will include sport camp involvements as well as certain NCAA duties.

Essential Functions of the Job:

1. Function: Coaching - Assists with the teaching of sport specific fundamentals and skills associated with the sport of bowling; be able to utilize a variety of teaching methods and provide bowling technique demonstrations where needed; observe and evaluate physical and mental game performance; execute practice plans to improve student-athlete skill level; provide instruction and feedback to student athletes during practice and competition; be able to think creatively; assist with the management of all aspects of the bowling program; and provides advice on lane plan and bowling ball strategy. (50%)

2. Function: Recruiting - Evaluate and recruit high school players; entertain prospective recruits and their accompanied family members on recruiting visits to campus; make phone calls, emails or social media contact with recruits; keep up with social media content of PSA’s; maintain NCAA guidelines regarding recruiting; travel to various sites throughout the year to recruit; and monitor academic performance of recruits. (40%)

3. Function: Sport Camp Coverage - Assists in directing sport camps as requested or required; reports on time and is prepared for all assigned sports camp activities; ensures camp participants are provided sound guidance and direction in accordance with industry-accepted sports protocols; maintains rosters and related documentation regarding sports activities and provides recommendations to the Camp Director to improve the camp experience. (5%)

4. Function: Other Duties - Performs other duties as requested or required, whether or not specifically mentioned in this job description. (5%)

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree 3 years of bowling experience as a player or coach at the collegiate level

OR

High School Diploma/Equivalent 9 years of bowling experience as a player or coach at the collegiate level

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities/Competencies:

Expertise in the technical aspects of bowling Strong interpersonal skills Ability to interact effectively with coaches, administrators, student athletes and vendors Extremely organized, self-starter, intrinsically motivated Strong organizational, management and leadership skills Proven ability to multi-task effectively Ability to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines Proficient computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets and social media Availability to work flexible work schedule including nights and weekends Travel with sport teams for away contests Thorough knowledge of NCAA and Southland conference rules and regulations

Ensures that all Department of Athletics and University related activities operate in full compliance with university, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations. Attends and participates in scheduled compliance seminars and complies with all the Athletic Department’s efforts to monitor compliance with NCAA regulations. Seeks interpretations from the compliance staff before acting when necessary. Reports potential rules violations immediately.  Completes required compliance paperwork in a timely and efficient manner. Monitors all of their areas and/or programs activities closely to maintain compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
