Assistant Chief Engineer

Job Purpose:

The Assistant Chief Engineer plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of all engineering systems within the hotel premises. Under the guidance of the Director of Engineering or Chief Engineer, the Assistant Chief Engineer will supervise and coordinate the activities of the engineering team, ensuring compliance with safety standards, implementing preventive maintenance programs, and troubleshooting technical issues as they arise. The Assistant Chief Engineer will assist in managing budgets, procurement of supplies, and adherence to regulatory requirements. This position requires a hands-on approach, strong leadership skills, and technical expertise to effectively support the Chief Engineer in achieving operational excellence.

Duties Responsibilities:

· Assist DOE or CE in overseeing the daily operations of the engineering department, including maintenance, repair, and installation of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.

· Supervise and coordinate the activities of engineering staff, including scheduling, training, and performance management.

· Collaborate with DOE or CE to develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to ensure the longevity and efficiency of all equipment.

· Conduct regular inspections of equipment, systems, and facilities to identify and address any maintenance or safety concerns promptly.

· Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment inventory, and safety inspections.

· Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations, building codes, and environmental guidelines.

· Respond promptly to guest requests and resolve any engineering-related issues to enhance guest satisfaction.

· Maintain an adequate inventory of parts, tools, and supplies.

· Train and supervise subordinates and assist in technical training, safety, and emergency for team members according to the existing infrastructure

· Initiate the master program to prevent breakdowns, to maximize the life span of machinery and material of all equipment.

· Maintains a close working relationship with all departments especially Front Office, Housekeeping and FB and handles job orders promptly for the installation, repairs/maintenance of all operating equipment as raised by the respective department.

· Vendor Management: Coordinate with external vendors, contractors, and service providers to procure supplies, schedule repairs, and oversee outsourced maintenance activities. Negotiate contracts, evaluate vendor performance, and ensure that services are delivered in accordance with agreed-upon standards and specifications.

Required skills and Qualifications:

· Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field preferred.

· Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership role within the engineering department of a hotel or similar establishment.

· Strong technical knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.

· Proficiency in computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and other relevant software applications.

· Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.

· Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks efficiently.

· Leadership qualities with the ability to motivate and develop a team.

· Knowledge of safety regulations and building codes.

· Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
