Assistant Bakery Manager
Duties and Responsibilities Customer Service & Sales Support Maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with emphasis on fast, friendly service. Assist customers with product suggestions, special orders, and food preparation ideas. Respond to incoming calls professionally; resolve customer concerns and escalate to Store Director as needed. Utilize suggestive selling and other sales techniques through phone, intercom, and direct customer interactions. Department Operations Possess working knowledge of duties performed by all department employees; assist with preparation, baking, decorating, and product display. Implement proper and efficient product preparation, packaging, and handling procedures. Maintain bakery case cleanliness, visual appeal, and appropriate inventory levels. Ensure compliance with food safety standards, including accurate temperature maintenance during preparation, display, and storage. Follow established opening and closing procedures for the department. Leadership & Staff Support Assist with scheduling, supervising, training, and assigning duties to department employees. Support daily operational planning and monitor production processes for efficiency and profitability. Communicate department goals, performance updates, and sales opportunities to the team as needed. Participate in sales meetings when required. Inventory, Merchandising & Product Quality Control inventory to ensure adequate product quantity, freshness, and quality. Stock, rotate, and maintain product according to division guidelines; organize coolers and storage areas. Build displays, rotate stock, and remove outdated or spoiled product. Ensure proper code dating is applied and enforced for all items in the department. Implement effective promotional and seasonal merchandising displays. Receiving & Documentation Perform receiving duties including breaking down loads, verifying orders, inspecting product quality, reporting shortages, and organizing product. Adhere to temperature, storage, and packaging standards during receiving and processing. Complete and maintain all required records, including daily log sheets, production charts, sales and labor reports, and other department documentation. Assist with sales and inventory reporting and with physical inventory conducted every four weeks. Safety, Compliance & Cost Control Maintain a safe, clean work environment and ensure compliance with sanitation and equipment standards. Understand and follow company policies as outlined in the Albertsons/Tom Thumb Employee Handbook. Control shrink and manage department costs effectively.
