About the Role
Based out of the client's Vancouver office, the Assistant Accounting Manager will support the financial operations of the Canadian (West) Buildings division, working closely with the Accounting Manager to ensure accurate reporting, effective controls, and seamless day-to-day accounting processes. This role oversees core accounting functions, reviews monthly/annual reporting, supports planning processes, manages compliance documentation, and provides guidance to junior accounting staff. It is a key leadership position for someone looking to grow into a future Accounting Manager.
Job ResponsibilitiesOversee and approve daily/weekly/monthly accounting functionsAssist with implementing and maintaining accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.Review and analyze accounting adjustments, submissions, and reports; investigate and resolve discrepancies.Review monthly forecasting, recoveries, and reconciliations prior to submission.Prepare ad hoc financial analysis and reporting for the Accounting Manager.Support annual and monthly planning processes.Conduct a detailed review of the month-end and year-end financial reporting packages.Prepare district review packages and year-end documents.Assist with internal and external reporting requirements, including tax and regulatory filings.Manage district cash-flow cycles and recommend process improvements.Review compliance documentationIdentify and communicate potential risks related to projects, compliance, and financial exposure. RequirementsDegree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or related field.4-6 years of progressive accounting experience (construction, real estate, or any project/cost accounting-focused sector is strongly preferred)Understanding of project costing, forecasting, and percentage to complete Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial controls, cash-flow management, and full-cycle accounting.Experience reviewing budgets, recoveries, and large-scale financial reconciliations.Strong analytical skills and ability to mentor junior accounting staff.Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.CompensationSalary $90,000 – $115,000 (based on experience and qualifications).Annual discretionary performance bonus.Employee share ownership opportunity.Comprehensive medical, dental & vision benefits.Pension Contribution and matching Paid vacation (starting at 3 or 4 weeks)
