About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join our finance team on a 6-month fixed-term contract. Based in North Birmingham, this hybrid role offers a mix of remote and office-based working. The successful candidate will support the finance function with day-to-day accounting tasks and month-end processes.

Key Responsibilities Assist with preparation of monthly management accounts Support with accruals, prepayments, and journal entries Reconcile bank statements and balance sheet accounts Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate coding of transactions Assist with VAT returns and other statutory reporting Liaise with internal departments and external stakeholders to resolve queries Support the Finance Manager with ad hoc reporting and analysis Contribute to process improvements and system updates Requirements Previous experience in an Assistant Accountant or similar finance role Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., Sage, Xero, QuickBooks) AAT qualified or studying towards ACCA/CIMA (preferred) Excellent attention to detail and time management skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Benefits Competitive salary Flexible hybrid working arrangement Opportunity to gain experience in a dynamic finance environment
