Life Sciences is a dedicated investing strategy within Goldman Sachs Alternatives.  The fund invests in innovative life sciences companies developing novel medicines with the potential to transform patient outcomes.  Launched in 2021, the strategy is currently investing out of its inaugural, $650mm fund. Goldman Sachs is seeking to hire an Associate for the Life Sciences Investing business. This position will have significant responsibility in identifying new investment opportunities, conducting due diligence, leading deal evaluation and execution, and advising portfolio companies on business, strategic and operational matters.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform scientific and business due diligence on potential investment opportunities including primary diligence (e.g., management team presentations, data room access) and secondary diligence (e.g. academic literature, key opinion leaders, industry experts).Prepare business and financial analyses including company projections and valuation analysesHelp prepare and revise investment related documentation including memos, term sheets, purchase agreements, and other related itemsCreate scientific diligence memos for various therapeutic areas of focusBuild and maintain financial models and understand industry trends as well as competitive dynamics for portfolio companies and prospective investmentsProduce company-specific and general biotech reports and presentations around new and existing drugs in development as well as emerging opportunity areasPresent investment theses to key stakeholders, including our advisory board and Investment CommitteeManage key aspects of the investment process, including internal diligence workstreamsMaintain internal databases relevant to the teamWork across multiple projects simultaneously with a high degree of communication and coordinationCollaborate with professionals across the team and firm and positively contribute to the overall culture

QUALIFICATIONS:

Undergraduate degree in life sciences and/or relevant graduate degree (MD, PhD, MS, MBA)Prior work experience in life sciences related field preferred (e.g. consulting, banking, investing or operating company) [Note: We look at the totality of work experience and education in evaluating a candidate]High degree of fluency in scientific and medical related topics, including human biology, physiology, and disease pathology with an ability to come up to speed quickly across therapeutic areasFamiliarity with stages of drug development and ability to evaluate preclinical and clinical data setsFamiliarity and experience with financial modeling including discounted cash flow and three-statement modelingStrong analytical ability, creativity, thoughtful business judgment, and professional maturityHigh energy level, strong communication skills, intellectual curiosity, and a passion for investingOutstanding organizational and communication skills, ability to multi-task, and manage various deadlinesDesire to collaborate with colleagues throughout the firm globallyAbility to work seamlessly with senior and junior investment team to drive investments forward

Salary Range
The expected base salary for this San Francisco, California, United States-based position is $150000-$225000. In addition, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus if you are an active employee as of fiscal year-end.
