The University of Virginia Darden School of Business, one of the world’s leading business schools, seeks a Charlottesville-based Assessment Implementation and Operations Specialist to join our Instructional Design team. This role manages the effective implementation of assessments and contributes to high-quality online learning operations. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented problem solver who delivers outstanding service, thrives in both collaborative and independent work environments, and is proactive about improving systems and processes.
This position collaborates closely with Academic Operations and program teams and plays a key role in enabling exam workflows and digital operations. This role includes weekend coverage (9–5 on Saturday and Sunday) during 10-12 designated exam periods annually. Two weekdays off are provided during each of these periods.
Responsibilities:
Oversee the exam process for the Full-time and Professional MBA programs (60%)
Collaborate with a variety of Darden teams to oversee logistics, communication, and execution of all aspects of the exam process across programs
Facilitate successful exam experiences for all stakeholders (faculty, students, support teams)
Prior to each exam period, support Darden faculty members and AOCs in building, reviewing, and administering assessments including mid-course quizzes, final exams, and other deliverables via Canvas
During each exam period, monitor and respond to student tickets, fixing issues and communicating with faculty and students as needed
After each exam period, generate reports for faculty, resolve outstanding issues and respond to faculty needs as they grade exams and other deliverables
Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance exam workflows and student experience
Provide live exam support during designated exam periods, including 10-12 weekends per calendar year
Support digital operations for Instructional Design projects (40%)
Work closely with instructional designers, faculty, and other teams to support the design, delivery, and improvement of courses. This role contributes to various technical and logistical aspects of digital operations, with responsibilities that may include one or more of the following, depending on team needs and project priorities:
Oversee the quality control of audio versions of academic case materials, including coordination with external vendors to ensure timely delivery, and embedding them in courses
Track, review, and format syllabi in Simple Syllabus, our online syllabus management system
Build Canvas course sites that meet instructional design standards and technical configuration requirements
Apply digital accessibility requirements (e.g., alt text, heading structure, file formatting) to course materials and LMS content
Assist in the collection, analysis, and reporting of course-level data related to assessments, student engagement, and platform performance
Implement and maintain course quality assurance (QA) processes, including content and functionality checks to ensure accuracy, usability, and consistency, in partnership with instructional designers
Support other operational needs as they arise
Education and Professional Experience:
Bachelor's degree and at least two years of relevant experience required. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Degree in Education, Instructional Design or a related field preferred.
Experience in learning management system support (Canvas strongly preferred)
Experience in Higher Education, especially in instructional or academic operations, is preferred
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated high level of professionalism, customer service, attention to detail, follow-through, teamwork, flexibility and positive, can-do attitude
Proven ability to manage tight deadlines and competing priorities
Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with individuals from a variety of educational, cultural and professional backgrounds to establish and maintain strong partnerships and to foster an inclusive environment
Motivated and enthusiastic about developing technology skills, learning software applications and taking on projects independently and as a team
Proficient with Microsoft suite (Office 365, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, Teams) and Zoom
