What You'll Do As Art Teacher, you will develop and deliver engaging art-based educational programs that integrate with other key content areas—such as academic subjects, daily living skills, community safety and involvement, social development and transitional planning. Your instruction will support students in making meaningful progress toward placement in the least restrictive environment (LRE) or achieving successful, independent adult living. Your Responsibilities Will Include: Instruction & Curriculum + Designing a dynamic and engaging classroom environment that fosters student motivation and participation. + Planning and delivering daily, weekly, and monthly lessons aligned with state curriculum standards, ensuring required instructional minutes are met. + Preparing lesson materials in a format that is easily accessible for substitute teachers. Student Progress & Documentation + Completing progress notes at least five times per academic year for administrative use in family and district communications. + Maintaining accurate non-academic records including communication logs, behavioral tracking, Restrictive Intervention Applications (RIAs), and Notable Event Reports. + Documenting and reporting individual student progress regularly; attend student-specific meetings as requested. Compliance & Reporting + Completing all required Committee on Special Education (CSE) documentation and related forms (e.g., behavior tracking, RIAs, Notables, Community Contact Forms) promptly and thoroughly. + Implementing behavioral support strategies approved by the treatment team, in accordance with Department of Education regulations. + Using SCIP-R physical interventions only in emergency situations to ensure safety of staff and students. Staff Collaboration + Monitoring and supporting classroom aides and assistants, evaluating their implementation of academic and treatment programs. Assist with staff evaluations when requested. + Communicating with classroom teachers regarding physical interventions, notable events, and behavioral concerns to ensure proper documentation and parent notification. + Building strong working relationships with residential, clinical, and family teams, as well as external service providers. + Participating in community orientation meetings and workshops related to Easter Seals New York. You're a great fit if you have: + Bachelor's Degree from accredited college or university. + Minimum 2 years’ teaching experience and/or master’s degree preferred. + Current and valid NYS art teaching certification. + Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
