Job Description Summary

 

The Architecture Department at Cuesta College, a two-year community college, announces the availability of a full-time, tenure track Architecture Instructor position beginning fall semester 2026. This position may teach the following courses: Architectural Digital Graphics (Revit, SketchUp, Rhino, Photoshop, InDesign), Professional Practice, Visual Communication, first and second year Design Studios, and Sustainable Building Design. The ideal candidate will exhibit a passion for educating Cuesta College's racially and socio-economically diverse student population. We are searching for a person who will enthusiastically engage with their students and work collaboratively with Architecture faculty from the California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, to promote student success and transfer readiness. This position also includes active participation n program review, student learning outcomes assessments, college governance, and shared departmental responsibilities. Desirable candidates will be innovative, collaborative, and supportive individuals with experience in teaching Architecture.

Our students routinely utilize computers and modern instrumentation to collect and analyze data in our labs. The department currently serves about 100 students annually. Cuesta College has a high number of Architecture transfer students to Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.

 

While the primary focus of this position is to teach day or evening in-person classes, assignments may be in any modality and at any of the Cuesta College sites within San Luis Obispo County.

Essential Functions & Qualifications

 

Required:

 

-Any Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution + two years of relevant professional experience directly related to the teaching assignment.

 

OR 

 

-Any Associate's degree from an accredited institution + six years of relevant professional experience directly related to the teaching assignment.

OR

-The equivalent. (Candidates applying on the basis of equivalency must submit all materials requested for an equivalency judgment. For directions on what is an acceptable equivalency argument please review the requirements listed on the HR Website or see further information on Equivalency Petition Process Information below.).

OR

-A valid Community College credential in the discipline (if received prior to1990, as the credential is no longer being issued).

 

Required:

 

-Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomics, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

 

Desirable:

 

-Have recent successful experience teaching lower division transfer curriculum in Architecture (at a university or at a Community College) in some or all of the following areas: Architectural Digital Graphics (Revit, SketchUp, Rhino, Photoshop, InDesign), Professional Practice, Visual Communication, first and second year Design Studios, and Sustainable Building Design.

 

-Professional practice experience.

 

-Awareness of the philosophy and objectives of California Community Colleges.

Interview Process Information

 

Selected applicants will be invited to give a teaching demonstration and interview on Thursday, April 16, 2026.
