This position supports the Army Prepositioned Stocks –Four (APS- 4) Program located in Sagami General Depot (SGD), Japan
Job Summary
KBR is seeking a qualified Environmental Specialist to join the APS-4 Program at Sagami General Depot, Japan. This role serves as the resident environmental authority, responsible for supporting safety and environmental compliance across vehicle maintenance and supply warehouse operations. The position ensures alignment with U.S. Army regulations, host nation policies, and KBR’s Zero Harm initiative.
Roles and Responsibilities
Oversee spill prevention and response operations across APS-4 SGD work areas
Conduct quarterly internal environmental compliance inspections
Maintain and update site-specific storm water compliance plans
Administer centralized database of hazardous materials within SGD in coordination with the Safety/Environmental Office
Collaborate with HAZMART to manage shelf-life extensions and coordinate cost-effective disposal solutions
Ensure proper labeling, storage, segregation, and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) compliance for hazardous materials
Apply hazard control principles and support the Industrial Hygiene program
Contribute to Hazardous Materials Management, Waste Disposal, and Pollution Prevention efforts
Present environmental and safety briefings to management and report on incidents and accident data
Track and analyze safety metrics to support continuous improvement
Assist APS-4 KBR HSE Department in maintaining a comprehensive Occupational Safety and Health Program in accordance with AR 385-10 and OSHA standards
Perform additional duties as assigned
Basic Qualifications (Required Education, Experience, Skills, and Certifications)
Must be a U.S. Citizen with a valid U.S. Passport
Possess a valid State Motor Vehicle Operator License
Ability to provide documentation to qualify as US EXPAT Invited Contractor Status and Japan SOFA Visa
AA degree in technical discipline or minimum 5 years’ experience in one or more of Health, Safety, or Environmental fields. Obtained Certificate for Industrial Environmental Management or equivalent within the last three (3) years; and an average of at least 12 hours of Environmental Specialist training within the last year.
Working knowledge of Logistics Support Activity (LOGSA), Defense Logistics Agency Shelf-Life Management, Hazardous Materials Information Resource System (SDS), DoD and Army Regulations
Ability to develop technical expertise to ensure full compliance with host nation and federal regulations and KBR policies
Ability to compile data for reports and presentations
Shall possess familiarity with various environmental regulation regimes and codes, workplace safety, military regulations, and the legal requirements of both the US and the host nation
Strong written and oral communication
Favorable adjudication of a NACI background check
Required to pass initial and periodic medical screening
