Job Summary:

ACCOUNTABILITIES

*All duties listed below are essential unless noted otherwise*

Customize eyewear for each patient by taking measurements with various measuring devices.

Evaluate prescription and recommend specific lens materials, designs, coatings and appropriate frame sizes and shapes to best suit patient preferences and visual outcomes.

Prepare and maintain work orders, prescriptions, and instructions for associated labs to fabricate lenses.

Make minor repairs or adjustments to eyewear for proper fit to each patient.

Verify insurance benefits, determine cost, and bill insurance.

Perform administrative duties such as tracking inventory and sales, submitting patient insurance information and basic bookkeeping.

Instruct patients on how to properly care for eyeglasses.

Sell contact lenses, eyeglasses, vitamins, and other accessories related to eyes.

Utilize the lensometer to verify or final inspect a patient’s eyeglass prescription.

Teach patients how to insert, remove and care for their contact lenses.

Troubleshoot problems related to patient complaints, diffuse unsatisfied patients, and provide solutions to remedy situations.

Arrange and maintain displays of optical merchandise.

Finishing lab duties such as edging, polishing, tinting and final inspection.

Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School diploma/GED

Skills: Successful candidates must be professional, provide superior customer service, have excellent attention to detail, effective communication skills, be able to multi-task and strong computer proficiency including required optical POS system.

Years of Experience: N/A

License: Must obtain Ohio Spectacle Dispensing Optician License within 12 months of hire.

Certification: N/A

Years of Experience: Prior medical/optical office experience preferred.

License: Apprentice Optician
