Application Business Owner (ABO) Specialist
Job Summary:
The ABO Governance Specialist supports the design, implementation, and ongoing refinement of governance models that ensure business accountability across critical technology applications.
This role contributes to standardization, control, and oversight practices that promote regulatory compliance, operational resilience, and strategic alignment within Northern Trust.
Responsibilities:
Support development and maintenance of governance framework for application business ownership
Contribute to defining roles, responsibilities, and escalation paths across business and technology
Facilitate business engagement throughout the application lifecycle
Assist in integrating ownership requirements into risk, compliance, and control programs
Help establish KPIs and dashboards to monitor ownership effectiveness
Participate in change management and communication efforts for governance adoption
Act as a point of contact for Business Owners, Application Managers, and auditors
Ensure third-party ownership aligns with enterprise vendor management policies
Maintain documentation to support audit and regulatory readiness
Qualifications:
7+ years of experience in governance, risk, application management, or business-technology oversight
Strong understanding of application lifecycle management and regulatory expectations (e.g., OCC, FFIEC, SOX)
Proven ability to support governance models across business and technology functions
Strong communication and influencing skills with executive stakeholders
Experience with governance tools, application inventory systems, and risk management platforms
Financial institution experience preferred

Salary Range:
$130,530 - 228,380 USDSalary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
