Analyst Programmer II
The University of Maine System (UMS) is seeking a collaborative and technically skilled Analyst Programmer II to join our University Services: Information Technology (US:IT) team. This position provides analytical and programming support for administrative applications that serve the shared needs of UMS campuses, sites, and centers. The work focuses on the development and enhancement of custom enterprise applications and platforms that support academic and operational success. The Analyst Programmer II works under the guidance of senior technical staff and contributes to the development, maintenance, and support of moderately complex applications and services. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented and adaptable IT professional who enjoys solving problems, building solutions, and collaborating with diverse stakeholders across the University of Maine System. This position has the option of being remote or located at one of the University locations throughout the state. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional evenings and weekends as necessary. Key Responsibilities: + Support the development, implementation, and documentation of custom enterprise applications and enhancements. + Maintain and improve existing applications; analyze change requests, design solutions, implement changes, and update documentation. + Troubleshoot application issues and coordinate resolution efforts with users, support staff, vendors, and developers. + Assist with monitoring and maintaining the stability of production operations. + Participate in code reviews to ensure compliance with security and programming standards. + Provide consultative support to campus units to understand and meet business needs. + Interface with external vendors and contractors as a secondary contact for technical collaboration. Required Qualifications + Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. + One to three years of experience as a programmer in a development or operational support capacity. + Demonstrated ability to design, develop, document, test, and maintain computer-based applications. + Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills for moderately technical issues. + Ability to set priorities, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines. + Flexibility and adaptability to respond to interruptions and changing priorities, technologies, and organizational needs. + Ability to assess customer needs and provide effective technical support and solutions. + Proficiency in preparing clear, well-organized technical documentation and communication. + Critical thinking skills to research, evaluate, and implement innovative solutions. + Familiarity with secure coding practices, development standards, and version control tools. + Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users. + Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders. Preferred Qualifications + Experience in a higher education environment. + Experience programming database-driven applications. + Experience writing secure web applications. + Experience with PeopleSoft technologies such as Oracle Database, SQL, PeopleCode, SQR, Application Engine programming, Application Package programming, Query, Application Messaging, and Java programming. + Knowledge of data modeling, database design, and relational database methodologies. + Knowledge of enterprise applications such as Student Administration, Human Capital Management (HCM), or Financials. + Knowledge of web development technologies, including HTML, JavaScript, and CSS. Salary and Benefits The hiring range for this full-time, regular position is $55,000 to $65,000, commensurate with experience. For current UMS employees, the salary will also take into consideration existing pay for transfer or promotion.
