Now Hiring!Educational ASL Interpreter for the 2026–2027 School Year Northern CaliforniaSchedule Monday–Friday, Full-Time (40 hours) Compensation: Competitive weekly pay (rate varies by experience) Travel Packages & Stipends AvailableAbout the Role We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Educational American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to support Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students across K–12 environments in Northern California. The interpreter will ensure students have equitable access to instruction, school communication, and educational opportunities, as required under IDEA and state regulations. Classroom and Interpreting Duties: + Provide accurate, real-time interpretation of classroom instruction, discussions, and school events using American Sign Language (ASL). + Facilitate communication between Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing students, teachers, peers, and school personnel as defined for educational interpreters under California regulations. + Adjust interpretation style and delivery to meet specific student learning needs, environments, and Individualized Education Program (IEP) requirements. + Support student access to extracurricular activities, assemblies, and school-related events, consistent with Title 5 California Code of Regulations §3051.16(b). + Maintain professionalism, ethical standards, and confidentiality. + Collaborate with teachers, case managers, support staff, and families to ensure students receive appropriate communication support. + Complete required documentation according to district and program guidelines. Education & Certification Requirements + Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Interpreting, Deaf Studies, or related field. + Must be one of the following + RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) Certification, or equivalent. + Holds a minimum score of 4.0 or higher on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) , the ESSE-I/R , + OR NAD/ACCI —as required for school-based interpreters under California Code of Regulations Title 5 + If providing Cued Speech, must hold TECUnit certification or EIPA-Cued Speech score of 4.0+. Ideal Candidate Will Demonstrate + Strong ASL fluency and expressive/receptive signing skills. + Ability to interpret academic content across grade levels K–12. + Understanding of Deaf culture, educational interpreting, and student accessibility needs. + Flexibility to work across multiple school sites. + Commitment to supporting students with diverse special needs within inclusive settings.
