Alpine Grooming Lead

Location: Nederland, Colorado

Position Summary: The Alpine Grooming Lead oversees the nightly grooming operations to ensure high-quality snow surfaces across the resort’s alpine terrain. This role coordinates and directs snowcat operators, prioritizes grooming routes based on weather, snow conditions, and event needs, and ensures all work meets safety and quality standards. The Alpine Grooming Lead also trains team members, troubleshoots equipment issues, and communicates closely with mountain operations leadership to deliver exceptional skiing and riding conditions for guests.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:

Operate heavy equipment at night in variable weather and snow conditions to create a safe and consistent riding surface.

Oversee and guide operators on a nightly basis to complete grooming plan set by the Grooming Manager

Communicate and delegate tasks, confirm tasks are completed in a safe and efficient manner

Complete all necessary paperwork for each day/shift (grooming logs, safety, and incident forms etc.)

Work closely with the Grooming Manager to develop short term and long term goals

Work closely with the Grooming Manager and Snow Surfaces Director to develop grooming strategies, planning and updates on daily grooming activities.

Communicate and collaborate with different mountain departments on necessary maintenance as well as any other events that need to be passed on from night operations

Report any repairs or maintenance that needs to be performed on the grooming equipment to Vehicle Maintenance

Make sure all equipment logs are filled out by staff appropriately as well as cleanliness of equipment

Promote and follow company safety procedures

Perform daily inspections on equipment prior to use to ensure safe operation.

Responsible for the safe operation of grooming equipment.

Minimize downtime and prevent machine damage through preventative maintenance, cleanliness, and up-keep of machine

Ability to groom in a pack and lead a team of 3-5 people per shift to navigate behind you on all types of terrain and travel routes.

Technical ability to maintain the slope with the proper flow and direction.

Groom seamlessly from one pass to the next.

Can groom a smooth finish down fall line with no blade dives or tiller hops.

Must be able to recognize when repairs to slope are necessary

Able to perform proper and safe tie-ins with other grooming.

Leads by example for all company safety policies and procedures, actively contributing to a safe working environment for self, coworkers, and guests.

Must be able to work weekends and holidays as required by resort operations.


Specific Job Skills:

Previous Snowcat or heavy equipment experience.

High school degree or equivalent.

Valid Driver’s License with the ability to pass a MVR check to company standards.

Minimum age: 21 years to operate company vehicles

Physical Demands:

Bending, reaching, climbing, pushing, pulling & prolonged standing.

Eye/hand coordination & visual concentration on equipment.

Concentrated reading and writing.

Must be able to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs. 

Variation in temperature from hot to cold.

Ability to work long hours including overnight shifts and weekend/holidays.

Must be able to work outside in cold temperatures and adverse weather conditions.

Schedule:

Non-Peak Days (M-F): 7:00am-5:30pm

Peak Days (Sa/Sun/Holidays): 7:00am-5:30pm

This schedule represents an average work week and is subject to change based on guest volume, operational needs, and weather conditions.

Supervisory Duties:

Oversee a team of 5-7 employees

Responsible for:

Scheduling and assigning work

Compensation & Benefits:

Compensation: Proposed hiring rate of $24+ actual pay will be adjusted based on experience.

Benefits: This is a seasonal position eligible for season pass for employees/dependents and privileges at several other resorts. Several discount programs (i.e. food & beverage, retail/rental, tickets, etc.) also available. Additionally, this position accumulates sick time.
