ALF Medication Technician

The Medication Technician is responsible for assisting the licensed nurse in providing nursing and

personal care for residents and attends to the residents’ comfort and personal needs by performing

the following tasks:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Receive report from previous shift and read Communication book.

• Check MAR for any new orders.

• Assist residents to get up and ready for the day including personal care and activities of daily

living.

• Check on residents at least every 2 hours – enter resident’s room to perform check.

• Administer medication according to the MAR.

• Assist residents with toileting, as needed.

• Document in residents charts as indicated.

• Document in the TAR and POC for each resident as needed.

• Assist with food service preparation and serving meals as needed – Cleaning up and wiping

off tables between meals (Set-up for Lunch meal service only).

• Pass waters, collect trash, provide towels, make beds, and assist with laundry.

• Provide light housekeeping as needed.

• Obtain and chart monthly weights and vital signs.

• Complete showers and bed changes according to the schedule.

• Answer call lights – when assisting another resident please communicate to the nurse on

duty if you may be more than 5 minutes.

• Write significant events and information in the communication book.

• Inform the nurse of any PRN Medication that is given and when HOLDING Medications

• Order Depends and supplies on Sunday.

PREREQUISITES, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

• Must have a High School Diploma or GED; or one to three months related experience

and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Must demonstrate effective problem solving skills.
