AIRCRAFT ORDNANCE SYSTEMS MECHANIC
Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This position is located in the Egress Systems/Weapons Release Shop of the Aerospace Section, Field Maintenance Branch, Aircraft Maintenance Division of an ANG flying unit with a reconnaissance mission. DEFINITION OF AREA(S) OF CONSIDERATION: Area 1 = Officer and Enlisted members of the Louisiana National Guard. Responsibilities Duties & Responsibilities: 1. Troubleshoots, installs, removes, repairs, modifies, adjusts, inspects, and tests such components as regulators, flow indicators, actuator motors, thruster and positioning mechanisms, seat actuators, catapult guiderails, ejection seats, rocket packs, and canopies, etc. Inspects for safety, serviceability and maintainability of systems prior to installation, removal, repair, or adjustments of components and insures proper installation and positioning of safety pins, initiators, simulators, and disarming mechanisms. Visually inspects ballistic lines, tubes, hoses, and linkage for damage, deterioration, restrictions, and security of connections and mountings, and performs corrective maintenance as required. Stores egress explosives IAWAFOSH standards. 2. Inspects pressurization system air pressure gauges for sufficient pressure and bottles and regulators for general condition and serviceability. Checks canopy and capsule structure and associated seals, latches, and locks for damage and security. Installs and maintains Jet Assistance Take Off (JATO) systems when applicable. Isolates the malfunction and takes necessary corrective action. Positions, repairs, and adjusts required aerospace ground equipment, such as rail extensions, hoists, slings, dollies, and trailers used in performing maintenance tasks. 3. Performs installation, modification, and repair of aircraft egress systems. Solves unusual installation and maintenance problems by studying layout drawings, schematic and wiring diagrams, applicable technical publications, and analyzing construction and operating characteristics of egress systems. Selects proper maintenance and repair procedures and corrects the malfunction and/or defective equipment. Diagnoses recurring malfunctions and recommends corrective action by initiation of Quality Deficiency Reports, proposed modifications, or other appropriate action. Performs Time Compliance Technical Orders(TCTO'S) related to egress systems. 4. Performs maintenance, troubleshooting, overhaul, repair, modification and periodic servicing of airmunitions and munitions systems applicable to reconnaissance aircraft. Accomplishes receipt, identification, inspection, storage and delivery of applicable munitions. Delivers unserviceable or serviceable excess ammunition to authorized disposal activity. 5. Schedules periodic maintenance of aircraft munitions systems when notified by Maintenance Control of inspections due. Inspects munitions required for reconnaissance flights. Advises on technical questions related to reconnaissance ainunitions. Analyzes difficult malfunctions and performs electrical ring-out of reconnaissance munitions systems, e.g., breech blocks, bomb racks, and drop tanks. Whenever munitions are installed, test electrical circuitry for normal operation of systems equipment and tests for absence of unwanted electrical signal or power prior to connecting electrically actuated reconnaissance mission munitions. 6. Loads cartridges, flares, etc., into aircraft systems and removes if not used in flight, following applicable handling, loading, and checkout procedures. Insures compliance with operational policies, maintenance directives, technical instructions, and standard operating procedures. Attaches and adjusts required airmunitions stabilizing, control, and safety devices, i.e., drop tank pins, photo flash door cranks and pins, center line safety pins, etc. Assures all switches in aircraft controls are off when servicing munitions. Assures aircraft is properly grounded to avoid static electricity. Operates handling and loading equipment and performs minor maintenance on same. 7. Enforces safety, fire, security, and housekeeping regulations. Insures that material and equipment are properly and safely stored, protected, and maintained. 8. Reviews bench stock to determine adequacy and to determine required renewals/deletions to accomplish programs. Inventories, provides security, and monitors the condition of assigned equipment. Maintains and reviews publication files of applicable technical orders, regulations, manuals, and local directives. 9. Assists in training of Drill Status Guardsmen. Assists in training of technician augmentees for emergency arming/de-arming of cartridges. 10. Prepares for or participates in various types of readiness evaluations such as ORI, IG and UE inspections, mobility, and command support exercises. May be required to perform such additional duties as structural fire fighting, aircraft fire/crash/rescue duty, security guard, snow removal, munitions loading and handling, heavy equipment operator, maintenance of facilities and equipment, or serve as a member of a team to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies. 11. Performs other as duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment 1) National Guard Membership is required. 2) Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service. 3) Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. 4) May be required to successfully complete a probationary period. MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Selected candidates will be required to be in a compatible military grade prior to the effective date of placement. Selectee must also be in a compatible military assignment (MOS/AFSC) prior to or within one year of placement. Qualifications GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must possess experience or training which demonstrates the applicant's ability to repair malfunctions of ordnance equipment and components; ability to use sketches, electrical diagrams, technical specifications and engineering drawings; experience which demonstrates skill in the use of test equipment to make electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic checks. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must possess at least Eighteen (18) months of experience or training in planning and layout of repair sequence and ability to complete modification, repair, and installation of ordnance systems; experience in diagnosing and troubleshooting malfunctions and determining remedies where complex relationships exist; experience in hand tools and the use of a variety of measuring and test equipment; experience in interpreting technical directions, blueprints, sketches, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer's specifications.
