Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic Supervisor
Summary This position is located at the Kansas City Veterans Affairs Medical Center (KCVA). This position functions as a Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC&R) Supervisor of the HVAC/R Shop, Facilities Engineering Service accomplishing trades and labor work. Provides supervision, advice and program development for the HVAC Operations shop. Responsibilities The Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic Supervisor Major Duties include: Plans daily, weekly, and monthly work to be accomplished by subordinates. Establishes deadlines and priorities for the performance of Preventive Maintenance (PM's), workload, and emergency responses based on methods, procedures, deadlines, and goals. Determines what assignments can be completed concurrently, how many to delay, and the number and type of personnel needed (considering skills, personnel, materials, and equipment available and required). Investigates work related problems and implements corrective actions. Directs, reviews, and analyzes the work plans of subordinates. Selects workers and assigns tasks to be performed by a wide variety of building trades and occupations having markedly dissimilar skills and unrelated work functions. Explains work requirements, methods, and procedures, instructs subordinates on new procedures, and provides advice when problems arise. Reviews work in progress and/or upon completion. Adjusts work plans, schedules, assignments, and methods to accomplish work as effectively and economically as possible. Determines equipment, supplies and materials required to complete assignments. Assures the delivery of supplies and equipment at work sites as needed. Works with leadership to establish the annual maintenance/operation plan for the HVAC&R shop. Responds to emergency maintenance needs to ensure they are accomplished in a timely/appropriate manner and keeps other internal supervisors and stakeholders advised of the status of unusual or emergent situations. Assigns and reviews work for the HVAC&R Shop staff. Establishes performance standards and makes formal and informal appraisals of subordinates. Participates in reviewing job descriptions for currency and accuracy and recommends necessary changes. Gives advice or instruction to subordinates on work and administrative matters and resolves problems and informal complaints through discussions with employees. Reports need for more serious correction, with recommended solutions for more complex problems, to supervisor. Serves as a management representative at hearings, meetings, and negotiations related to labor relations. Promotes management's programs and policies which include, but are not limited to, cost reduction, incentive awards, safety and EEO. Identifies employee training needs, and initiates action to request necessary training. Schedules and approves leave. Maintains production reports and records. Assures all safety practices are observed in work operations. Recommends work method improvements and the structuring of positions to achieve optimum efficiencies to supervisor. Performs other related duties as assigned.
