The AI Specialist will lead the development, design, and deployment of AI tools, intelligent document management, and analytics within a regulated environment across our R&D Programs. This role combines expertise in applying advanced AI technologies, including machine learning, NLP, Generative AI, and regulatory documentation to drive innovation and compliance across New Product Development (NPD) streams. This role is critical for driving innovation and efficiency in all aspects of New Product Development (NPD).

This position is part of the Advanced Staining Reagents and Pharma services team. This is an on-site role. Located at our Deer Park, Chicago, IL, office, you will also work alongside our team at the Leica Biosystems Newcastle Innovation Centre in Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK.  

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

Lead the development, deployment, and training of GenAI and NLP tools to enhance productivity in documentation processes—covering generation, summarization, classification, and metadata tagging—while ensuring compliance with applicable AI standards.Ensure AI systems and associated documentation meet all applicable regulatory standards (e.g., FDA, EMA, ISO, GxP, GDPR) by creating and maintaining ISO-compliant SOPs and technical documentation for manufacturing and quality assurance, collaborating with R&D and QA teams to ensure traceability and document integrity, and leading validation and audit readiness efforts to support regulatory submissions and reviewsMonitor the performance of AI models in real-world diagnostic settings, leveraging feedback and new data to refine and enhance system accuracy and reliability. Develop and execute post-market evidence strategies that demonstrate the clinical and economic value of AI-enabled diagnostics, supporting broader adoption and regulatory confidence.Stay current with emerging AI technologies and trends in healthcare and diagnostics, Research and recommend relevant technologies to stakeholders, e.g., AI-powered tools to enable NPD efficiencies, documentation efficiencies, implement and manage these tools, and collaborate with the wider project teams to integrate technologies into document workflows.

The essential requirements of the job include:

Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Biomedical Engineering, or related fieldExperience in AI  / ML development for document efficiencies across clinical NPD.Strong background in NLP and data modelingIT skills and experience, particularly in leading the creation, optimization and deployment of AI tools within document generation, review and management.Experience of working effectively across functional teams to ensure project timelines are met, driving accountability in others, and working independently with minimal supervision

Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements: if applicable for role

Travel expectations within this role 50% (you will need to travel to our UK site with overnight stays)

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

Experience with AI model validation and explainability (XAI).Familiarity with diagnostics, digital pathology, and R&DKnowledge of clinical development workflows and associated regulatory and quality processes

The annual salary range for this role is $85,000-110,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the future.
This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.

We offer comprehensive package of benefits including paid time off, medical/dental/vision insurance and 401(k) to eligible employees.
