About the jobStrategic context:The Africa MCO is part of the new international region, and covers mostly countries: Egypt, Algeria, South Africa, Tunisia & Morocco. This role as Africa MCO Medical Head, Pharma will be leading the medical organization for Pharma in Africa MCO. Medical Pharma in the MCOs will combine Specialty Care and General Medicines medical teams. Sales size for Pharma is about 0.8 Bn Euros sales combining specialty care and general medicines mandates with double digit growth expected with specialty care portfolio.
The MCO Pharma Medical Head will have multiple responsibilities including MCO Medical Pharma Lead, Medical Pharma Lead and Country Medical Lead for the anchor country.
Other Medical Heads of Pharma may report to MCO Pharma Medical Head (if applicable). The Head of Medical MCOs will report into the Medical International Head, and will be member of the International Medical Leadership Team
Key Responsibilities:
Define and drive the overall medical strategy in the MCO, in alignment with the business strategy.
Lead the transformation and related change management.
Be accountable for medical plans, resource allocation, and medical performance in the MCO.
Support the efficient growth acceleration as per global franchises guidance.
Drive innovative solutions/models answering specific patient needs, pioneer new operating models and ways of working in the MCO.
Lead and give strategic direction to the MCOs Medical teams.
Drive patient engagement initiatives in the MCO
Contribute to shaping the environment to ensure access to innovation and sustainability for patients we serve.
Define team structures and implement it together with agile & innovative ways of working.
Foster people engagement, and continuously develop team, talents, and capabilities.
Foster learning and encourage thoughtful risk taking within the MCO teams by sharing best practices and innovative initiatives.
Build synergies and continue to challenge low impact activities across the MCO medical perimeter to improve efficiencies.
Be a role model and champion Take the Lead behaviors, corporate commitments, and compliance guidelines.
As a Country Medical Lead for MCO/anchor (CML), you will be the Sanofi medical interface, both externally and internally, for non-GBU specific topics. This includes (not exhaustive):
Unified medical voice for medical/scientific external for non-BU specific topics at country/MCO level in alignment with Country Lead and Public Affairs
Representation of Sanofi in medical committees of country pharmaceutical associations
Chairs the country/MCO MRPQ (GxP-) council and adhoc committees
Ensures cross-GBU consistent medical understanding of Sanofi policies and SOPs with special focus on HCP interaction governance
Supports all functions to ensure audit readiness and CAPA implementation with respect to cross GBU medical topics
Ensures cross-GBU medical talent review
Key Priorities
Implement the MCOs organization as per global blueprint & define appropriate governance.
Build and develop teams according to North Star Talent Principles.
Successfully continue leading transformation (including cultural / ways of working evolution with a robust change management plan) while delivering business results / avoiding business disruption.
For global brands and launches, ensure full alignment with global strategies, pricing and foster seamless collaboration with global franchise teams (via prior business case alignment).
For Alliance assets (e.g. Dupixent), ensure alignment of key decisions, and resourcing with Global Franchise and execute.
Proactively identify efficiencies for the rest of the portfolio and look for opportunities of simplification.
Ensure seamless roll-out and implementation of new Sanofi initiatives (ie: Leveraging data and AI) to accelerate & scale-up new operating models & medical best practices.
Be a role model of One Sanofi mindset and ways of working.
About youExperienceTrack record of leadership within Medical Affairs, or distinctive experience combining both business and Medical Affairs leadership
Proven experience in leading transformation & building efficiencies at local and international level.
Extensive experience in managing a medical organization at country level.
Previous experience in product launches, with great knowledge of access ecosystems.
Soft and technical skills:
Strong scientific acumen & excellent understanding of international regulatory and scientific environment.
Excellent understanding of the Medical Business strategy and operations, with a capability to bridge scientific and business objectives through people.
Proven ability to operate across different business models / product portfolios: Primary care, Specialty care, etc.
Strong ability to lead teams, inspire & engage with colleagues in a diverse and multicultural environment. Prior experience of working with remote teams is a value add.
Transformative leader, focused on people development and fostering a culture of empowerment and accountability.
Ability to influence senior stakeholders, collaborate and build trusting relationship.
An innovative mindset and a digital experience with customer facing approach.

Education: Scientific background: i.e. Medical Degree, PhD, PharmD (MD highly preferred). Board certification is an advantage.
