The AFNORTH/A9M Systems Engineer is responsible for engineering support and subject matter expertise for implementing and sustaining a secure virtualized systems environment integrating live, virtual, constructive (LVC) technologies, networks, and Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) compatible virtual and constructive simulators, models, and data link systems. The Systems Developer implements secure interconnections supporting LVC data, voice capabilities, and integration of mission partner capabilities to support operational and tactical command and control (C2) training objectives and operational tactics, technique, procedures development.
This position coordinates with key stakeholders on secure design, development, installation, interconnections, configuration, and maintenance of virtualized command and control (C2) systems including Battle Control System-Fixed (BCS-F) and the multi-source correlator tracker/tactical display framework (MSCT-TDF) as well as simulator capabilities such as the PLEXSYS Support Advanced Simulation Combat Operations Trainer (ASCOT) and the Battlespace Simulations Incorporated Modern Air Combat Environment with extensions.
The Systems Engineer works in close coordination with the ISO, Technical Director, ISSO, and Systems Administrators on secure systems implementation and sustainment activities.
TASKS:
Employing configuration management processes to assure AFNORTH DMO training systems’ baseline compliance and fielded version control
Analyzing design constraints, system and security trade-offs, and lifecycle support considerations for system modifications
Conducting market analyses to identify, assess, and recommend commercial, GOTS, and open source products
Coordinating with capability and service providers for hardware, software, and security deficiencies and update distribution
Designing, testing, and fielding virtualized integrated hardware, operating systems, and software applications solutions supporting operational training capability requirements.
Building, assessing, and modifying baseline change prototypes on the research and development baseline system prior to fielding to the production platform and site-deployed platforms.
Identifying and directing remediation of technical problems encountered during testing and implementation of baseline changes
Developing detailed baseline and site-specific system configuration documentation for component and interface specifications
Creating functional baseline version drawings, configuration implementation documentation, and checklists for system and functional administrators
Employing data backup capabilities into overall system designs and ensuring appropriate technical and procedural processes exist for secure system backups and protected storage of backup data.
Participating in planning meetings, supplying technical expertise, planning, development of test plans and procedures to demonstrate the effectiveness of proposed solutions and accompanying tactics, techniques, and procedural modifications.
Implementing system administration and management functionality for privileged access users.
Presenting mitigation strategies to address cost, schedule, performance, and security risks.
Developing and directing system testing and validation procedures and documentation.
Incorporates risk-driven systems maintenance updates process to address system deficiencies (periodically and out of cycle).
EXPERIENCE:
2+ years related experience
Command and Control Systems, Tactical Data Links, LVC environments, VMware vSphere, Windows Administration, Linux Administration
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalent experience (4 years)
CERTIFICATIONS:
IAT Level II or IAM Level II (Security+ CE, CCNA Security, etc.)
