Advanced Vehicle Industrial Engineer
Job Description

Work Arrangement
Hybrid: This means the successful candidate is expected to report to GM Global Technical Center – Cole Tower Engineering Center in Warren, Michigan, three times per week, at minimum.

 

The Role

We are interested in talking to self-motivated innovation minded Candidates possessing the ability to work collaboratively in the GA Manufacturing Engineering space specifically focused on advanced vehicle program studies.  As an Advanced Vehicle Industrial Engineer (AVIE), you will evaluate vehicle math for Base Engineered Content (BEC) changes, analyze conveyor length requirements and develop people count estimates for manufacturing planning study requests.  For vehicle programs progressing through global vehicle development process, you will develop target performance metrics for general assembly and develop line balance solutions to support those metrics. The AVIE role includes working collaboratively with the Plant Launch IE team during PPO builds to validate the fine line balance prior to the handoff to the plant IE team.

 

What You'll Do

Evaluate early program information and support collaborative BEC target setting.

Develop and maintain a line length estimator to calculate the total length of conveyor systems based on input parameters such as conveyor type, layout, product design, speed, throughput.

Develop Headcount/HPU to ensure efficient manpower planning on future vehicle programs.

Develop and track lean measurable scorecards and metrics for new programs.

Coordinate early development of new program line balance plans.

Align line balance development with simulation studies and overspeed requirements.

Support deep dive activities to align line balance with tooling, conveyors, and material plans.

Drive BEC reduction and design optimization workshops (including GMNA).

Ensure countermeasures for achieving IE deliverables (e.g., MPH, VA%, headcount).

Support people count (LTP) Long term planning activities for vehicle assembly sites



Additional Job Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

3+ years of professional Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and/or Manufacturing Engineering experience with a focus on future program planning

Experience with assembly plant processes & systems (Body, Paint, or General Assembly).

Future program launch/execution experience.

Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing Processes.

Ability to gather information, organize and make presentations to Senior Leadership.

What Can Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

5+ Years Vehicle Assembly Industrial Engineering experience (Body, Paint and General Assembly).

Working knowledge of work measurement techniques (STDS) & the Assembly Processing System (APS).

Indirect Labor/Material IE experience

Team Center - working with product math data.
