Advanced Specialist, Strategy
Pearson
**Job Title:** Advanced Specialist, Strategy
**Location:** Poznan or Remote, Poland
**Role Qualifier:** AI Value Realization
**Background**
At Pearson, we help people realise the life they imagine through learning. With the emergence of generative AI, we are at an exciting crossroads in the company, harnessing the immense power of the technology with extreme care for what matters to us most – the trust and safety of our learners. As we shift from scattered experiments to everyday use of AI across our products and operations, we need to ensure our investments are focused, coordinated, and delivered responsibly. That’s why we created the AI Centre for Enablement (C4E): a company‑wide hub that brings together shared strategy, reusable components, and applied research, so teams don’t solve the same problems in isolation.
Within the C4E, the Strategy & Governance function provides the clarity and direction that keeps our efforts aligned. We are responsible for curating an integrated narrative for our enterprise AI strategy, guide prioritization of common use cases through the AI Strategy Council and track the value and impact of our investments. This work ensures that every AI initiative we support is purposeful, avoids duplication, and contributes to Pearson’s long‑term ability to scale AI safely, ethically, and effectively.
**Role Summary**
Support the Pearson’s enterprise-wide AI strategy by coordinating high-impact initiatives to execution, aligning cross-functional teams, and helping shape the company’s AI vision. This role turns strategic insights into action—embedding AI into product and technology rhythms, supporting executive visibility, and championing ethical, value-driven AI investments.
At the IC25 level, the role influences and enables rather than owns decision-making processes. The Specialist provides analysis, recommendations, and structured insights that help senior leaders steer AI priorities effectively.
**Key Responsibilities:**
+ Support the AI demand management process by analyzing technology-enabled use cases across Product, Engineering, and Operations.
+ Contribute to foundational AI capability development and standardization efforts in partnership with R&D, product, and business teams.
+ Maintain and update components of the unified AI product portfolio—tracking use cases, assessing impact, and identifying risks—while escalating issues to portfolio owners.
+ Conduct triage and alignment assessments for new and existing AI initiatives, producing recommendations tied to business goals.
+ Develop analysis and option frameworks to inform scaling, pausing, or stopping AI investments; provide recommendations rather than approvals.
+ Support Group Strategy with research and analysis to evaluate AI partnerships and inorganic opportunities.
+ Prepare reporting and insights on AI-driven innovation, investment outcomes, and value realization for senior leadership.
+ Design and pilot lightweight tools and dashboards that improve portfolio transparency.
+ Coordinate logistics, materials, and follow-ups for the AI Strategy Council; contribute to agenda shaping while senior leaders retain decision authority.
+ Support the creation of the annual enterprise AI strategy and decision frameworks through structured analysis and synthesis.
**Required Skills and Competencies:**
+ Strategic and analytical thinking to support business direction.
+ Strong data analysis, visualization, and storytelling capabilities.
+ Effective communication and collaboration skills to influence and align teams without decision ownership.
+ Understanding of AI technologies, governance, and ethical considerations.
+ Commitment to Pearson’s essential behaviors: Customer Centricity, Exceptional Collaboration for Value, Raising the Performance Bar, and Our Leaders Inspire.
**Qualifications (Education & Experience):**
+ Bachelor’s degree in Strategy, Business, Computer Science, Data Science, Public Policy, or a related field; advanced degrees (MBA, MSc, MPP) are valued but not required.
+ 5+ years of experience supporting enterprise‑scale transformations, digital strategy, AI/ML initiatives, or technology‑enabled product portfolios — ideally in a global or matrixed environment.
+ Direct exposure to AI/ML programs, including experience partnering with Data Science, Product, Engineering, Responsible AI, or Research teams.
+ Experience contributing to portfolio governance, investment frameworks, or structured prioritization processes for technology or innovation portfolios.
+ Demonstrated experience translating complex technical, operational, and business inputs into strategic recommendations for senior leaders.
+ Experience preparing materials and insights for VP‑level and C‑suite stakeholders, with a strong ability to synthesize and clarify ambiguity.
+ Hands‑on experience with quantitative and qualitative analysis, including scenario modeling, opportunity assessments, and value realization frameworks.
+ Experience supporting AI governance, risk management, compliance, or ethical AI considerations (e.g., model safety, data privacy, fairness frameworks).
+ Experience working within or alongside product lifecycle management, product operations, or engineering delivery processes (e.g., agile, discovery, experimentation).
+ Prior exposure to change management and adoption pathways for new technologies across business units.
+ Proven ability to coordinate cross‑functional stakeholders and influence without authority across Product, Engineering, Operations, and Strategy functions.
+ Comfort navigating high‑velocity learning environments, where emerging technologies, standards, and operating models evolve rapidly.
Preferred / Nice‑to‑Have Qualifications
+ Industry certifications in any of the following:
+ Project/Portfolio Management (PMP, PRINCE2, PMA, PfMP, Agile/SAFe)
+ Innovation or Digital Transformation (e.g., IDEO, Lean Innovation, Scaled Product Ops)
+ AI/ML Foundations or Responsible AI (e.g., MIT, DeepLearning.AI, Google/Microsoft AI certificates, RAII, Open Ethics)
+ Experience building or maintaining AI use‑case inventories, portfolio dashboards, KPI frameworks, or value tracking tools.
+ Familiarity with enterprise data platforms, AI tooling ecosystems, or modern ML operations.
+ Experience supporting evaluation of AI partnerships, vendor solutions, or M&A/inorganic AI opportunities.
+ Knowledge of evolving AI regulations and industry standards (e.g., EU AI Act, NIST AI RMF, OECD principles).
+ Experience in consulting, strategy, product ops, or internal advisory roles. \#LI-MG1
