Job Title: Shipyard Welder/Fitter
$45/hour & $140 in per diem
Primary Responsibilities:
Perform structural welding on carbon steel and stainless-steel componentsRead and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and fabrication drawingsExecute multi-pass welds in various positions with precision and consistencyOperate welding equipment and tools safely and effectivelyInspect welds for quality and compliance with specificationsCollaborate with fitters, engineers, and supervisors to meet production goalsMaintain a clean and safe work environment in a non-climate-controlled facilityWeld Test Requirements:
Pulse Arc Examination
Open root weld with visual inspection of the rootWeld front side using carbon arc gouging, then cut and inspect back side3-position test: 2G, 3G, 4G (all plates x-rayed)Voltage parameter: 20.1–23Wire speed: 155–175Flux Core & MIG Hardwire Test
Use 1/16\" wire (71T-1) for 3-position test: 2G, 3G, 4GWelds must pass visual inspection and bend testingVoltage parameter: 25–27 (strict compliance required)Wire speed: 180 (may go as low as 150, but passing is 180)MIG Exam
Use .045 wire only (experience with .032 and .035 preferred)2G testVoltage parameter: 25–27Wire speed: 280Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Newport News, VA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $45.00 - $45.00/hr.
