 Advanced Practice Registered Nurse  - Orthopaedics, Trauma

 

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) delivers medical care to a wide variety of patients. The APRN is also examines and treats patients independently and in autonomous collaboration with other health care professionals. Ensures proper illness and injury care and disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. May prescribe medications and order diagnostic tests. Advises patients about continuing care. 

This position provides outpatient care to patients of Orthopaedics – It will serve as an OR Coordinator to optimize the use of the Orthopaedic Departments OR, as well as see General Orthopaedics telehealth patient volumes. Orthopaedics at multiple locations, including satellite offices. The Department is developing a comprehensive Orthopaedics department aiming to become the center of excellence in South Florida and nationally. 

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

1.    Participates as a member of a patient management team. 

2.    Perform admission histories and physical exams. 

3.    Perform interim physical assessments of medical status (twice daily and as needed). 

4.    Provide patient education.  Participates in patient/family interventions. 

5.    Respond to medical emergencies as necessary. 

6.    Perform medical procedures with or without direct physician supervision within the scope of the license / certification. 

7.    Conduct discharge planning. 

8.    Follow post-operative cases and order/monitor home-care post hospitalization. 

9.    Consult with patients and prospective patient/families by phone.  Evaluate/triage need for care and advise regarding appropriate interventions including need for emergency treatment. 

10.    Consult with other professionals regarding decision-making in patient care as needed. 

11.    Act as liaison between the medical staff, nursing staff, patients and insurance companies. 

12.    Ensures the appropriate applications of critical pathways. 

13.    Participate in decision-making with patients by providing information regarding pathophysiology and benefits/risks of treatment options. 

14.    Coordinate clinical trials including Human Subjects Committee communication, consent forms and patient recruitment. 

15.    Coordinate data collection and patient activities (clinical follow-ups, etc.) in clinical research. 

16.    Assist with nursing staff development. 

17.    Other duties as assigned.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS  

Education: 

Master’s degree in relevant field 

 

Certification and Licensing: 

Valid State of Florida APRN License 

 

Experience:   

Minimum 2 years of relevant experience 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes: 

Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions. 

Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail. 

Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines. 

Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment. 

Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
