Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (DEA)
Position Summary Serves in collaboration with a Physician as a provider of primary care for patients over the entire spectrum of age and gender. The scope of practice includes diagnosing, treating and prescribing medication. Minimum Qualifications Work Experience Two years of experience as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) with demonstrated leadership skills preferred.
Education Master's degree (or higher) in Nursing required.
Certifications/Licensure Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (or temporary work permit) in the Commonwealth of Kentucky required. APRN Certification from a board recognized national organization required. DEA License required within 6 months from date of eligibility.  Job Specific Performance Standards The duties listed below are a summary of the major essential functions of this position.   Performs thorough patient history and physical assessments including psycho/social, on all age/sex classifications. Performs focused exams and orders lab, x-ray or other diagnostic tests appropriate to each client’s condition or complaints. Diagnoses disease states and administers appropriate treatment. Consults with physician and makes referrals as appropriate. Orders, performs, and interprets laboratory and x-ray procedures as appropriate with patients and families. Participates in identifying processes to improve issues and initiates improvements. Analyzes patient data and develops plans of care and documents clearly and concisely in a timely manner. Implements Health & Wellness teaching, counseling and/or support systems for individuals and families including but not limited to immunizations for the prevention of infectious communicable diseases, such as influenza and pneumonia. Utilizes resources to provide educational materials to patients and families. Administers emergency care and performs minor surgical procedures. Promotes well-child, female health care, and cancer and other health promotional screenings. Performs CPR when indicated.  Maintains current certification, and ensures readiness of emergency equipment. Prescribes medications appropriate for each client’s condition within the guidelines of Kentucky State Law. Follows up on patients per phone as needed. Performs suturing of superficial lacerations. Identifies and addresses the needs of different patient age groups and effectively communicates with these patients. Assist Office Manager/Administrator when necessary to maintain departmental reports and records and collects statistical data for administrative and regulatory purposes. Maintains facility records to promote efficient running of the facility.  Ensures proper charges are entered. Assigns level of care and appropriate CPT code to correlate with the diagnosis for each patient.  Documentation supports code assigned. Translate current literature/journal findings into practice, applying research process to clinical areas.  Maintains standards of certification requirements through continuing education programs. Protects patients’ rights including privacy and confidentiality.
