Advanced Manufacturing Engineering - Designer
Job Description SummaryThis role is for a lead tooling designer for the X-Ray Tubes design and manufacturing facility located in West Milwaukee, WI.  This includes design from concept to implementation of tooling required for x-ray tube manufacturing. Role would own tooling development from concept to manufacturing implementation working with an on-site design and manufacturing team. Role would be responsible for designing tooling to ensure highest safety while accounting for part, process, and equipment variation. Additionally, role would lead fabrication, procurements, and standardization of tooling designs where applicable.

Job DescriptionRoles Responsibilities

Work with Engineers to capture and produce a design that captures all product requirements for either new or existing products

Generate 3D design concepts, modeling in Creo parametric, and generate assembly and detail drawing packages with experience using Creo Windchill PDM.

Use basic understanding of ASME Y14.100-2017 and ASME Y14.5 and ISO GPS (GD&T) to develop engineering prints

Manage and execute all aspects of tooling fixtures design processes, development along with the build follow-up and delivery

Verify drawing, and assembly drawings for accuracy and completeness

Design, revise and update mechanical drawings and BOM structures as required

Examine engineering drawings of parts, assemblies, and installations to ensure accuracy and completeness and ensure conformance to design requirements documentation supplied by engineering and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing.

Determine material and tool selection using knowledge of drafting and manufacturing methods

Verify fit, form, and function for completeness and consistency of dimensioning on drawings.

Perform tolerance stack up analysis and fitment reviews in support of drawing features dimensioned

Ensure all necessary documentation is complete such as engineering prints, bills of materials, and related product specifications to allow successful transfer to manufacturing

Coordinate procurement of prototype material as well as oversee the build and verification of design

May work on design projects that reduce the cost of the product, as well as, designing necessary equipment or fixtures that are needed during the new product development cycle or with installed base products

Lead and participate in engineering and general design and print reviews as required

Serve as design expert on the shop floor; support machinists in resolving problems during the building stages.

Required Qualifications

Associates degree in a recognized Creo CAD training facility, and a minimum 5 years of related experience or equivalent

Minimum 5 years of Computer Assisted design/drafting/checker experience.  Detailed knowledge and highly proficient with Creo CAD, as well as being able to perform design analysis like stack-ups

Demonstrated ability to independently draw conclusions from technical information

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.

Experience leading design reviews

Experience with proposal documentation and qualification test procedures

Ability to interact with vendors and customers on engineering design issues

Ability to meet reliability, performance, cost, serviceability, and delivery targets

Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills for presenting, discussing, and documenting technical information

Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently toward timely completion of a desired goal

Ability to be an integral member in a team environment that interacts with other disciplines.

The ability to read and interpret detailed procedures, engineering instructions, drawings, and specifications.

Good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to work with employees within and outside the department.

Analytical ability to identify and define issues, research drawing history, specifications, establish facts, and draw conclusions.

Desired Characteristics

10 or more years of relevant design experience with mechanical design, Creo CAD

2 or more years of experience with design for manufacturability and reliability

Design experience with medical products, global teams, and working in a medically regulated industry

Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field

Excellent teamwork, coordination, and communication skills

Ability to meet aggressive schedule requirements

Adaptable and flexible:  being open to change and able to respond to new information, workload changes or updated priorities as they present themselves.

Creative problem solver and solution developer when presented with conflicting requirements, business demands and technical risks/issues
