Job Description

 

This posting is to establish a pool of qualified applicants positions for Adjunct Professor, Stagecraft 

 

Crafton Hills College is a designated Hispanic Serving Institution with a majority of our students identifying themselves as either African American/Black or Latinx. We are seeking individuals to join our Theatre Department team that are fully committed to transformational, culturally responsive education in a collegial and collaborative student-centered environment.

 

Position Summary: 

Crafton Hills College is seeking qualified, enthusiastic, and student-centered individuals to join our Performing Arts Department as Part-Time Stagecraft Instructors. The successful candidate will teach one or more courses in Stagecraft (e.g., Stagecraft, Technical Theatre, Set Construction, Lighting, Sound, and related topics) and may assist in technical support for theatre productions. This position is part of a diverse and collaborative department that is committed to student success, equity, and excellence in teaching and learning.

 

Representative Duties: 

 

• Teach Stagecraft and/or related technical theatre courses in accordance with department curriculum and California Community College standards.

• Prepare and deliver course materials, including lectures, demonstrations, lab exercises, and assessments.

• Evaluate student performance and maintain accurate records in accordance with college policies.

• Maintain office hours to assist and advise students.

• Ensure a safe and inclusive working environment in the scene shop and backstage areas.

• Participate in production support, including scenic construction, lighting, sound, rigging, or other technical theatre work, as needed.

• Collaborate with full-time faculty, staff, and students to support departmental goals and student success.

 

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

 

• Bachelor's degree(s) or higher and two years of professional experience.

 

OR

 

• Associate degree(s) and six years of professional experience.

 

Desirable Qualifications: 

 

• Professional or academic experience in scenic construction, lighting, sound design, rigging, or other technical theatre areas.

• Experience teaching or mentoring students in technical theatre or stagecraft.

• Ability to work effectively with students of diverse backgrounds and learning needs.

• Knowledge of safety procedures and best practices in theatrical production environments.

• Familiarity with modern stagecraft tools and technologies (e.g., CAD, ETC lighting consoles, QLab, power tools).

• Strong communication, organizational, and collaborative skills.

Environment:

 

Work is performed primarily in a standard office setting. Occasional exposure to risks controlled by safety precautions.

Instruction may take place in classroom, laboratory/shop, and theatre settings.

 

Physical:

 

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to occasionally lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight up to 30 pounds; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.

 

Vision: 

 

See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents; and to operate assigned equipment.

 

Employment Requirements

 

The person selected for hire will be required to complete the following pre-employment requirements:

 

Submit to and successfully pass DOJ live scan/fingerprinting. Cost of live-scan services to be borne by candidate.

 

• Sealed official transcript(s) in envelope from institution or electronic copies emailed directly from institution (for positions with higher education requirement)

• Tuberculosis (TB) risk assessment.

• Employment verification(s) (for salary placement on faculty salary schedule). The salary posted in the job listing reflects the range from the starting minimum to the maximum placement, which is determined based on the candidate's education and experience once the position is offered and the salary placement paperwork is submitted to the Office of Human Resources.

5. Unofficial transcripts that show you meet the minimum educational requirement(s) for the position. Only transcripts showing the awarded minimum required degree or higher degree will be accepted. Transcripts must be legible. Transcripts must be from a US accredited institution. Transcripts from outside the US must include an official evaluation for equivalency. Copies of diplomas will not be accepted in lieu of transcripts if the position requires a degree. Official Transcripts will be required upon hire. If possible, please highlight the area indicating the degree name/major and date the degree was awarded or conferred.
