Adapted Physical Education (APE) Teacher – Special Education
Location: New Braunfels, Texas
Schedule: 35 hours per week
Compensation: $35/hour
About the Role
We are seeking an Adapted Physical Education (APE) Teacher to provide specialized physical education services to students with disabilities who require individualized support to successfully access the PE curriculum. This role is essential in promoting motor development, functional mobility, physical fitness, and confidence for students with diverse needs.
The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in Physical Education, experience working with students receiving special education services, and a passion for creating accessible, inclusive environments where all students can thrive.
Key Responsibilities
+ Conduct comprehensive assessments of students’ motor skills, functional movement, and physical abilities.
+ Develop individualized APE goals and objectives aligned with each student’s IEP.
+ Design and implement adaptive physical education activities that enhance strength, coordination, endurance, balance, and mobility.
+ Provide direct APE services in a variety of school settings (gym, classroom, outdoor areas, etc.).
+ Collaborate with general PE teachers, special education staff, occupational and physical therapists, related service providers, and families.
+ Recommend accommodations, modifications, and adaptive equipment to support student participation.
+ Monitor and document student progress; contribute to ongoing IEP development and ARD/IEP meetings.
+ Foster an inclusive, safe, positive environment that encourages student engagement and success in physical activity.
Qualifications
Required:
+ Valid Texas EC–12 certification in Physical Education.
+ Background in general physical education instruction.
Preferred:
+ Special Education endorsement or certification.
+ Experience teaching or supporting students with disabilities.
+ Knowledge of motor development, adaptive equipment, and behavior-supportive practices.
Work Schedule & Compensation
+ 35 hours per week
+ $35.00 per hour
