Accounting Manager
Job Description
The Accounting Manager leads all core accounting operations in a hands-on role within a small, privately owned manufacturing environment. This position oversees the full accounting function, directly supervises an AP/AR team member, partners closely with HR and an external payroll service on payroll activities, and supports leadership with accurate and timely financial reporting. The role plays a key part in cost accounting, process improvement, and strategic decision-making using the Plex ERP system, offering clear visibility into the impact of your work on the business.
Responsibilities
Lead all day-to-day accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and month-end and year-end close processes.Directly supervise, mentor, and develop one AP/AR employee, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback.Oversee all accounting and accounts payable activities while partnering with existing support on day-to-day accounts receivable tasks.Assist HR and the payroll service provider with payroll processing, reconciliations, and related reporting to ensure accuracy and timeliness.Manage the internal cash planning tool and prepare 13-week cash flow analyses to support short-term liquidity planning.Manage financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to provide actionable insights to manufacturing leadership.Oversee cost accounting, inventory valuation, and job costing within the Plex ERP system to ensure accurate product costing and profitability analysis.Prepare information and documentation for tax-related filings while working closely with an external CPA firm.Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and applicable regulatory requirements across all accounting activities.Collaborate with the President, operations, production, and sales teams to deliver timely financial analysis and drive process improvements.Prepare and present clear, accurate financial statements and key metrics to senior leadership in a format that supports informed decision-making.Continuously identify and implement process improvements in accounting workflows, reporting, and system usage, particularly within Plex ERP.Maintain accurate bank reconciliations, journal entries, and other core accounting records to support reliable financial reporting.Essential Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.5+ years of progressive accounting experience.At least 2 years of experience in a supervisory or managerial accounting role.Strong experience with general ledger maintenance, month-end and year-end close, and journal entries.Hands-on experience with accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.Experience with financial reporting and preparation of financial statements.Knowledge of GAAP and internal control principles.Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel.Proficiency with ERP systems, preferably in a manufacturing context.Experience with cost accounting, inventory valuation, and job costing.Ability to perform reconciliations, including bank reconciliations.Demonstrated leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.Ability to thrive in a small-team, multi-hat environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.Additional Skills & Qualifications
CPA or CMA certification is strongly preferred.Prior experience in a manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.Experience working in companies of roughly 50–150 employees is strongly preferred.Hands-on experience with Plex ERP is a significant plus.Experience with similar manufacturing ERP systems such as Epicor or SAP is beneficial.Familiarity with payroll processing and coordination with HR and external payroll services is beneficial.Some tax knowledge and experience preparing information for tax filings is advantageous.Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to support leadership decision-making.Comfort presenting financial statements and key metrics to leadership.Interest in and aptitude for process improvement within accounting and finance functions.Work Environment
This role is based in an office located at a manufacturing site, providing close collaboration with operations, production, and sales teams. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with some flexibility on start and end times. You will work in a small, privately owned organization where team members often wear multiple hats and can directly see the impact of their contributions. The environment combines traditional office tools such as Microsoft Excel with a manufacturing-focused ERP platform, primarily Plex, and may include exposure to other systems like Epicor or SAP. The setting supports close, cross-functional communication and a practical, results-oriented culture.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $100000.00/yr.
