Responsibilities

Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure, which requires a strong understanding of existing policies, procedures, legal structure, ERP system, and related subledger functionality.Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close at the legal entity and consolidated level under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).Complete all balance sheet account reconciliations during the month-end close process.Ensure the timely reporting of all monthly financial information, including participation in the development of new reports and analyses as needed.Support budget and forecasting activities.Collaborate with other finance department managers to support overall department goals and objectives.Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and use resources effectively while maintaining a high level of accuracy.Advise staff on handling non-routine activities.Respond to inquiries from the Finance organization, Assistant roles, and other finance and firm-wide managers regarding financial results, special reporting requests, and similar queries.Work with Accounting leadership to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit, internal audit review, statutory audits, etc.Assist with the preparation of corporate income tax returns, Sales/Use tax returns, GST, VAT, and other local taxes as deemed appropriate.Supervise the general ledger group to ensure that all transactions (fixed assets, cash management, general ledger, etc.) are timely and properly recorded to meet financial reporting deadlines.Assist in the maintenance, development, and implementation of new and more efficient procedures and system features to enhance department workflow while maintaining a high level of accuracy and integrity.Provide training to new and existing staff as needed.Handle personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, etc.Work with each direct report to establish goals and objectives aligned with group and Company goals and objectives.

Essential Skills

Extensive knowledge of accounting principles and procedures, including a good understanding of US GAAP and/or IFRS.Strong understanding of the full accounting cycle process, including purchasing, accounts payable, order management, accounts receivable, fixed assets, general ledger.Proficient with all Microsoft Office applications, including strong Excel skills.Experience with large automated accounting/Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.Experience working in a fast-paced/high-growth environment where deadlines are met and multiple projects are handled simultaneously.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Project accounting experience is a plus.Multi-currency accounting experience is a plus.Oracle accounting system experience is a plus.Mix of public audit and corporate accounting experience is a plus.CPA certification.

Work Environment

The role is set in a fast-paced environment dedicated to providing next-generation solutions for broadband IP networking via satellite networks. The Accounting Manager will supervise five staff accountants and work closely with the Assistant roles and VP of Finance, requiring strong interpersonal communication skills. The position involves tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities, including general ledger preparation, monthly financial close, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation, and support for budget, forecast, and tax compliance activities. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Herndon, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $57.69 - $72.12/hr.
