Position SummaryThe Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, including payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general ledger activities. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, compliance with GAAP, and continuous improvement of accounting processes. The Accounting Manager provides leadership to the accounting team, supports strategic decision-making, and maintains efficient systems and controls.
Key ResponsibilitiesOversee core accounting functions: payroll, accounts receivable/payable, journal entries, and monthly/annual close processes.Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures to meet organizational needs.Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting and maintain compliance with GAAP.Review and approve monthly cost allocations, depreciation, accruals, and reallocation entries.Approve and post journal entries prepared by staff.Manage timekeeping systems, evaluate processes for efficiency, and provide training to timekeepers.Direct payroll processing, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with regulations.Serve as point of contact for wage garnishments and resolve payroll issues.Prepare payroll journal entries and reconcile data with third-party providers.Maintain data integrity and generate reports using appropriate tools.Stay current with federal and state payroll regulations.Provide financial insights to the CFO for strategic decision-making.Hire, train, and retain skilled accounting staff; provide coaching and professional development.Drive continuous improvement of financial systems and processes.Foster a culture of collaboration, customer service, and high performance within the accounting team.Required Skills & CompetenciesExpertise in payroll, accounting, month-end close, financial reporting, and budgeting.Strong knowledge of journal entries, general ledger, reconciliations, and cost allocations.Supervisory experience with proven leadership and team development skills.Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and MS Word; familiarity with financial software Excellent communication, organizational, and customer service skills.Ability to multitask, prioritize, and exercise sound judgment.Education & ExperienceEducation: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Business Administration required.In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 15 years of experience in an Accounting/Payroll Manager role is required.Experience: Minimum of 5 years in accounting, including at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity.Knowledge of GAAP and federal/state payroll regulations required.Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hartford, CT.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $29.67 - $35.22/hr.
