Reporting to the Senior Accountant - Taxation, the Accountant – Taxation will assist in ensuring that Barrick Lumwana group of Companies complies with their tax and commercial obligations and to provide high quality tax and commercial input to the group’s affairs.
Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
Management of Lumwana Mining Company tax obligations including income tax, VAT, mineral royalty, withholding tax, customs duty and excise duty and managing tax risks by ensuring correct amounts of taxes are paid on or before due dates.
Implementing LMC tax accounting requirements, including ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of the LMC tax entries in the statutory accounts and preparing the tax notes in the statutory accounts.
Liaise with tax advisers and ZRA with regards to any tax matters that are identified and which arise in the course of business.
Management of supplier relationships to ensure tax consequences are identified and correctly dealt with.
Management of tax audits and contact person for ZRA credibility and control assessments.
Ensure that there is cost control by monitoring that only taxes are paid as and when due, review of tax accounts to avoid over and under payments
Establishing and maintaining Lumwana data room which records and tracks compliance with the group’s obligations to GRZ and other key stakeholders.
Accountable for completion of all tasks identified in the Management Operating System (MOS) to the specified quality and timelines as assigned to this role.Prepare and manage the budget for the function.Actively contribute to tax planning and provide tax advice to management.Reviewing of material contracts for tax implications.Provide regular feedback on all taxation matters to enable effective management of key performance activities.To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:
Full Grade 12 School Certificate
Degree in Accounting or Professional Qualification such as ACCA / CIMA.
Member of Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Significant experience (8 years) post graduate experience with preferably 5 years in mining in a senior commercial/ accounting role.
Sound understanding and experience of the principles and practice in accounting and contracts
