SUMMARY The Accountant – Tax supports the preparation, filing, and reconciliation of sales and use tax returns across various states and jurisdictions. Responsibilities include data extraction from ERP systems, managing exemption certificates, handling tax inquiries, and assisting with audits and special projects. This role requires strong Excel skills, attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines. Reports to the Manager, Tax Accounting. Responsibilities • Compliance and Filings o Obtain data from ERP systems for the monthly processing of sales and use tax returns. o Assist in reviewing, calculating and filing sales tax returns for all states and numerous local jurisdictions using compliance software. o Monitor and manage notices including ensuring notices are responded to timely. o Collect, review, scan, and update customer sales tax exemption certificate in tracking system. o Respond to and manage internal customer requests for tax advice, tax credits and adjustments through the tax department’s shared e-mail box o Assist with daily manual assignment of tax schedules to Jobs created in GP1 • Accounting Reconciliation o Reconcile sales tax payable account to sales report to ensure sales tax returns are calculated correctly. o Respond to internal (employee) inquiries regarding tax rates for various US tax jurisdictions and research those tax rates. • Other Potential Duties o Issue resale certificates and W-9’s. o Construction jobs – manually calculate and post sales tax entries to the job cost system. o Post sales tax credit memos for service invoices and post bad debt credit memos in Great Plains. (ERP) o Review construction jobs for final tax entries to close jobs, including reviewing contracts and other documentation in the construction job folders. • Special projects as needed o Assist with Sales tax audits as needed. o Assist with annual personal property tax filings. o Assist with tracking income tax payments and income filing of payments, extensions and returns. (Returns are prepared by PwC) Qualifications • Bachelor’s degrees in accounting, finance or similar • Self-motivated individual with the ability to meet project deadlines • Advanced Excel skills and the ability to analyze data • Organized professional with exceptional written and verbal communication skills • Ability to understand and follow all company policies and procedures and all applicable State and Federal laws.
