Job Description
This role provides comprehensive accounting support for a growing boutique law firm with a focus on insurance bad faith claims and commercial property tax litigation. The accountant manages litigation-related financial workflows, trust and IOLTA accounts, case billing, and general accounting functions while delivering accurate and timely financial reporting. The position supports attorneys and legal staff by ensuring compliant, transparent, and well-documented financial processes that contribute to excellent client service and successful case outcomes.
ResponsibilitiesTrack litigation-related financial activity, including settlement funds, insurance proceeds, subrogation payments, and case-specific expenses, ensuring accurate allocation and documentation.Maintain, reconcile, and document trust and IOLTA accounts in full compliance with Texas State Bar rules and firm policies.Prepare invoices for litigation matters, including contingency-based billing, cost recovery, and reconciliation of case-related fees and expenses.Perform general accounting duties such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger maintenance, journal entries, and month-end close activities.Support payroll processes by providing accurate accounting data and ensuring proper recording of payroll-related transactions.Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements, providing litigation-specific insights and analysis to support firm leadership and case strategy.Provide property tax support by tracking filing fees, appeal costs, and client reimbursements related to commercial property tax litigation.Support real estate closing activities by preparing trust request retainers, invoicing hourly billing, and performing case reconciliation for closing-related matters.Assist with internal audits, trust audits, and the preparation and maintenance of regulatory documentation to ensure ongoing compliance.Collaborate closely with attorneys, paralegals, and the litigation support team to clarify financial requirements, resolve billing issues, and support case management.Maintain thorough, organized financial records and documentation for all accounting activities, ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and audit readiness.Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, enhance internal controls, and streamline financial workflows within the firm.Essential SkillsBachelor’s degree in accounting or finance management.2–5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in legal, insurance, or real estate environments.Strong understanding of trust accounting, settlement fund management, and litigation-related financial workflows.Proficiency with QuickBooks Online.Experience with legal billing software.Hands-on experience with general ledger accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliation, month-end close, and journal entries.Demonstrated ability to produce accurate financial reporting, including monthly and quarterly financial statements.High attention to detail and strong focus on accuracy in all financial records and reports.Commitment to maintaining confidentiality of sensitive financial and client information.Ability to work effectively with attorneys, paralegals, and litigation support staff in a professional services environment.Additional Skills & QualificationsCertified Public Accountant (CPA) designation strongly preferred.Experience in a law firm, insurance, or real estate setting is highly beneficial.Familiarity with litigation accounting, including contingency-based billing and cost recovery.Experience supporting property tax matters, including tracking filing fees, appeal costs, and reimbursements.Exposure to real estate closing processes, including trust request retainers and case reconciliation.Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines simultaneously.Effective communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.Proactive, collaborative mindset with a focus on client service and supporting successful case outcomes.Work Environment
The role operates in a hybrid work environment, with three days in the office and two days working from home each week. The position is within a boutique law firm that has experienced significant growth, expanding from a small team to a larger group of attorneys and legal staff since its founding in 2016. The firm focuses on insurance bad faith claims and commercial property tax litigation and places a strong emphasis on client service and achieving successful outcomes. You will work closely with attorneys, paralegals, and litigation support professionals, using tools such as QuickBooks Online and legal billing software in a professional office setting that supports both collaboration and independent work.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fort Worth, TX.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
