About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Accountant I to join our finance team and support essential financial operations that directly contribute to our mission. This role is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on accounting work and wants to build experience in residential billing, lease subsidies, and accounts receivable within a collaborative, mission-driven environment.

You will work closely with experienced finance professionals, gain exposure to multiple accounting functions, and play a meaningful role in ensuring accurate billing, timely payments, and compliance across housing and support programs.

What You Will DoSupport residential billing for transitional and permanent housing programs, including rent advances and lease subsidies.Assist with lease subsidy management such as client invoicing, landlord payments, and income-based rent adjustments.Maintain and update monthly residential billing rosters.Help ensure Group Living Environment clients receive annual Social Security increases and updated billing agreements.Track and process payments related to contracts, third-party billing, grants, and other cash receipts.Post daily deposits and monitor outstanding payments.Reconcile client accounts receivable and research discrepancies.Prepare and distribute client invoices for rent, Community First Choice, and housing programs.Apply payments received via cash, check, credit card, and electronic funds transfer.Support month-end close activities by completing accounting entries and reconciliations.Provide backup support for accounts payable, state contract billing, and other general accounting functions.Assist with budgeting and contracting documentation and analysis.Collaborate with the Controller and finance team on projects and process improvements.What We Are Looking ForA strong foundation in accounting principles with attention to detail.Comfortable working in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and other MS Office tools.Organized, dependable, and able to manage multiple priorities.Clear communicator with a customer-focused approach.Interested in learning and growing within nonprofit, healthcare, or residential finance.Education and ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field, or an Associate’s degree with meaningful relevant experience.Two to three years of accounting or accounts receivable experience preferred but not required for the right candidate.Experience with nonprofit, healthcare, or residential billing environments is a plus.Familiarity with contract billing is helpful but not mandatory.Why Join UsBe part of a large nonprofit organization with a strong, meaningful mission.Collaborative finance team that values knowledge-sharing and support.Stable Monday to Friday schedule with a 37.5-hour work week.Opportunity to grow your accounting skill set across multiple functions.Office-based role located in Berkshire County.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $55000.00 - $55000.00/yr.

Company benefits will be provided by client once an offer is extended.
