Academic Senior Advisor - Pre-Health Professions **POSITION DETAILS** The Academic Senior Advisor will report to the Academic Advising Director in the Pre-Health Advising Office at Hunter College. In this position the advisor will work as a member of the team in the Pre-Health Advising Office to provide advising and application support to approximately 1300 undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students interested in graduate level study for health professions careers, including medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine optometry, and allied health professions. In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the Academic Senior Advisor for Pre-Health Advising will be responsible for the following duties: + Serve as the primary advisor for all Pre-Health students + Conduct one-to-one and/or group informational sessions for all students interested in the medical or other Health related professions. + Advise students on academic issues including but not limited to: curriculum and general education requirements, selection of major and minor areas, and academic standards such as retention and probation. + Evaluate and maintain up to date students' records to certify progress toward graduation and conduct preliminary graduation audits with regards to general education requirements. + Serve as a resource to students on academic policies and standards, grading policies, and + various appeal processes. + Assist with student retention efforts of the Pre-Health department through participation in initiatives such as mentoring Initiatives, class meetings, and yearly class check-up appointments. + Ensure pre-health students are informed and stay up to date on areas of educational and career trends + Partner with academic programs and administrative areas to develop and place students into mentoring, research, internship, summer/winter programs, tutoring and shadowing opportunities. + Provide students with relevant and up-to-date information regarding MCAT preparation, networking opportunities and/or scholarship/fellowship programs. + Assist the Chair and faculty members of the Health Professions Advisory Committee in the submission of letters for candidates each year. + Liaise with external constituencies regarding health professions and communicate with other medical and health professions schools as needed + Represent the College at admissions and orientation events + Maintain accurate and organize program data and statistics needed for decision making e.g.: applications and acceptance rates. + Update content on the Pre-Health Professions website. **QUALIFICATIONS** Bachelor’s degree and four years’ related experience required. **Preferred Qualifications** + Master’s degree in education, higher education, counseling, or related field + Pre-health advising or health professions graduate admissions experience. + Proven record of working effectively with students, alumni, faculty, and employers + Proficient computer and web-based skills + Related university or professional experience + Experience with utilizing PeopleSoft systems, Navigate, Brightspace, and social media + The preferred candidate will have excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and time-management skills, as well as a strong work ethic and commitment to student success. + Occasional evenings or weekends may be required. **CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW** Provides expert and/or specialized academic counseling a diverse student population. - Offers comprehensive advisement to full-time and part-time students - Works with other academic affairs staff as well as enrollment and student affairs to assist students to declare majors and select appropriate courses - Monitors students' performances and takes appropriate action if necessary; resolves students' problems regarding curricular requirements - Develops academic plans and performs graduation audits - Provides information to students regarding student support services, college policies and program procedures and guidelines - Facilitates workshops; assists with other department activities such as course scheduling - Establishes and maintains student advisement files; prepares activity reports and analyses - May supervise extramural activities, such as internships and community service; may assist with accreditation efforts as needed - May provide career and transfer services and/or specialized program counseling - May supervise junior advising and/or clerical staff - Performs related duties as assigned.
