Position Title Academic and Career Advisor Position Type Staff Department Academic and Career Advising FLSA Exempt Union/Non Union Non Union Full Time or Part Time Full Time Grade 14 Salary Range Hiring Salary Range $66,281 - $94,731 / Annually Fixed Term/Tenure Track (Faculty Only) Regular or Temporary Regular Job Description Summary The Academic and Career Advisor is responsible for providing complete organizational information and services to students across several disciplines, including the enrollment process, academic advising, career exploration, and international students using the Appreciative Advising Model. Additionally, to include, but are not limited to, guiding students’ career exploration, planning and class selection, case management of assigned students, and retention alerts. Minimum Qualifications EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s degree in higher education, student personnel/services, education, psychology, human resources or related field required Minimum of three years’ full-time experience in the professional area or related experience Experience in counseling, psychology or related field with an adult population Master’s preferred in higher education, student personnel/services, education, psychology, human resources or related field Experience with advising students on academic and career related issues. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Shares the knowledge of the College catalog, curricula, and programs. Provides career exploration and pathway articulation information. Provides advising for prospective, new, and current students in person, virtually, or via telephone/email, including registration, individual advising sessions, classroom visits, and group sessions. Utilize continuous academic progress tracking using specific benchmarks/credit hours (15, 30, 45 and 60) for assigned student population. Collaborates with Records and Registration to assist international students in providing comprehensive advising services to F-1 and non-immigrant students, including the enrollment process, placement testing/interpretation, and academic program planning. Under the supervision of the Manger of Technology and Retention, participate in the implementation of retention initiatives using Navigate to ensure student success. Interpret scores from Accuplacer, ALEKS, SAT, ACT, unofficial transcripts (high school and college credits), and/or identifies the student’s proper prerequisites and course sequences. Knowledgeable of current institutional technology (Colleague, Owl Link, Navigate, Microsoft Office Suite, ZOOM) to guide students through all aspects of advising. Completes Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) appeal process. Respond to and manage cases assigned through the Retention Alert System. Assists students with learning how to register and identify appropriate courses for assigned caseload by pathway Serve as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) by complying with the Clery Act and reporting crime-related information Perform other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledgeable of academic and career programs (Associate of Arts), and transfer degree programs (Associate of Applied Science, Associate of Arts in Teaching, Associate of Science, Associate of Arts) programs and certificates. Knowledgeable of college and community resources (Disability Support Services, Wellness Center, Student Success and Engagement, Honors Program, Tutoring Services, Special Scholarships, Financial Aid). Knowledge of federal financial aid rules and regulations, state-mandated requirements, articulation and MOU agreements, FERPA regulations, college policies and procedures, and relevant legislative changes. Knowledgeable of best practices in Academic Advising, appreciative advising model, and career exploration. Awareness of customer service best practices Ability to design and lead student-centered programs and workshops Awareness of student demographics and cultures Skilled in the use of computers and related software applications. Excellent time management skills Awareness of student needs and the ability to recommend appropriate success strategies and referrals as needed. Strong organizational and administrative skills and the ability to prioritize, demonstrate independent decision making, and meet deadlines. Demonstrated leadership practices and ability to think strategically to support change and innovation. Public speaking skills, including engaging groups in workshops and structured presentations. Ability to extract, analyze, and interpret data. Ability to work independently with little supervision. Effective communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, and the public. Job Requirements PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSMust have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine.
