**POSITION DETAILS**
Hunter College seeks motivated and student-focused professionals to serve as the inaugural Transfer Student Success Center (TSSC) Academic Advisors. The Academic Advisors will report to the Academic Advising Manager. In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the Academic Advisors will be responsible for the following duties:
+ Provide personalized, one-on-one advising to a caseload of transfer students, helping them understand degree requirements, transfer credit evaluations, and academic planning
+ Maintain accurate advising notes and student records in the student information system
+ Identifies critical milestones and transitions for transfer students and will advise students regarding all aspects of their curriculum
+ Works closely with supervisor, faculty members, and other academic advisors and departments to ensure that transfer students are presented with a broad base of opportunities with which to optimize their experience at Hunter College
+ Facilitate group advising sessions and workshops on topics such as time management, major and career exploration, academic success strategies, and degree planning
+ Assist in planning transfer orientation sessions, social mixers, welcome events, and transfer appreciation programs
+ Uses multiple technologies to advise and communicate with student caseload including CUNYFirst, DegreeWorks, EAB Navigate, Zoom, project management software, etc.
+ Proactively engages students in advising process through appointment campaigns and regular communication
+ Provide support with financial aid related applications or appeals
+ Collaborate with the Financial Aid Office to help students resolve common financial aid issues and explore available federal, state, and institutional aid options
+ Advisor is expected to have staff photo and biography on website, and engage in virtual advising, chat rooms, social media, videos, and online tutorials.
+ Participate in professional development to stay informed about best practices in student advising and transfer student success
+ Performs other duties as assigned
+ Position may occasionally require evening and/or weekend work
**QUALIFICATIONS**
Bachelor's Degree required.
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Master’s degree in higher education or a related field
+ Experience in a higher education setting, particularly with student advising or support
+ Familiarity with CUNYFirst, EAB Navigate, or DegreeWorks
+ Bilingual or multilingual skills
+ Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
+ Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population
+ Comfort with technology, including Microsoft Office and student information systems
+ High level of empathy, patience, and a commitment to student success
**CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW**
Provides academic counseling and planning services to a diverse student population.
- Assists students with clarifying values and goals; counsels students regarding educational options, requirements, policies and procedures.
- Offers academic and personal support to guide students through the course selection process
- Provides students with effective and timely referral to other college and external support services
- Monitors and evaluates students' educational progress by conducting academic progress audits
- Establishes and maintains student files, databases and records; prepares activity reports and analyses
- May specialize in providing advice on specific programs or to specific student groups
- Performs related duties as assigned.
