This position is for a sports medicine classroom teacher that serves as the athletic trainer for the assigned school site.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Teach sections of Sport Medicine, CTE Pathway in accordance with the 11 Essential Elements of a High Quality CTE program classes as assigned by the Principal; develop, organize and supervise a student-trainer internship Utilize an adopted course of study, instructional program guidelines, and other materials in planning and developing lesson plans and teaching Pursue a variety of methodology in teaching and instructing pupils, including lectures, demonstrations, discussions, and laboratory Conduct teaching and instructional activities, using educational equipment, materials, books, and other learning Provides instruction in citizenship and other subject matter specified by legal mandate, District policy, and administrative Plan, develop, and utilize a variety of instructional materials and aids appropriate to the intellectual and instructional level of pupils from a varied socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, and who possess a range of mental and emotional Review, analyze and evaluate the history, background and assessment of pupils in designing instructional programs to meet individual educational Individualize and adapt educational processes and procedures to enhance pupil educational Provide group and individual instruction to motivate pupils, and effectively utilize the time available for instructional Maintain appropriate standards of pupil behavior, using behavioral management strategies and techniques, including positive reinforcement and behavior shaping Review, analyze, evaluate, and report pupil academic, social, and emotional Prepare, administer, score, record, and report the results of criterion referenced tests, and administers, scores, records and reports the results of group standardized tests in evaluating pupil growth and Counsel, confer with and communicate with parents, school and District personnel regarding pupil progress, and in the interpretation of the educational Cooperatively pursue alternative solutions to ameliorate pupil learning problems, and to enhance expanded academic, social and emotional growth Maintain an effective learning environment through the proper control of heating, lighting, and ventilation, and the utilization of exhibits, displays, and independent study Select and requisition appropriate educational supplies, materials, books, equipment, and learning Perform a variety of non-instructional duties, including curriculum and instructional development activities, student supervision, and consultation Review student-athlete health history records and inform faculty of health Maintain accurate, detailed medical quality records on medical history, physician’s referrals and instructions, injuries and treatment protocols and progress, including concussion baseline testing and tracking, wrestling weight management records, in compliance with all HUSD Policies, HIPAA and FERPA requirements; prepare necessary Maintain accurate, detailed reports about the current status of RTL (Return-to-Learn) and RTP (Return-to-Play) plans for student-athletes and communicate, at a minimum, weekly reports to athletic director, head coaches and teachers if Provide training room services for school-sponsored athletic practice sessions on a schedule determined cooperatively by the principal and athletic director. Attend all practice sessions, training, conditioning, and contests, including summer sessions, as scheduled by the Assistant Principal in charge of Athletics and/or the Site Provide medical coverage (e.g. administering first aid and/or CPR as required) for school-sponsored home athletic contests on a schedule determined cooperatively by the principal and athletic Travel to away, school-sponsored athletic events, with school teams of student-athletes on team transportation (i.e. buses, vehicles) as scheduled by Assistant Principal in charge of Athletics and/or Site Tape and otherwise prepare student-athletes for school-sponsored athletic Provide water and ice for home and visiting teams at school-sponsored athletic Provide immediate care of athletic injuries sustained by student-athletes at school-sponsored athletic activities (including but not limited to practices, contests, conditioning sessions, ) and refer the athlete to medical facilities when necessary. Identify and treat student-athlete athletic-related injuries and return student-athletes to the field of competition as soon as is safe. Advise coaches of flexibility, strength and conditioning programs to help prevent injuries and optimize performance of student-athletes. Administer baseline testing to all student-athletes. Administer baseline testing following a head injury for all student- Monitor any RTL/RTP plans in compliance with CIF/CCS and California State Law, as well as HUSD policies. Provide instructions about aspects of injuries, conditioning and nutrition to student-athletes. Counsel student-athletes with health or injury problems and make referrals to health agencies; decide, in absence of on-site physician, whether a student-athlete is medically able to participate in practice and/or return to competition in compliance with all CIF/CCS, California State Law and HUSD Advise and assist student-athletes with medical equipment needs, with equipment purchases and Supervise the use of athletic training equipment; maintain the athletic training workspace and treatment room in a clean, sanitary, and orderly Maintain athletic training supplies and equipment in athletic training workspace; maintain an accurate inventory of all athletic training room supplies and equipment; maintain first aid kits and supplies for use by school teams traveling to school-sponsored away athletic contests. Develop, foster and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others including student-athletes, athletic trainers, coaches, parents, physicians and health center personnel; facilitate communication among Assist with preparation of written policies and procedures regarding emergency management, treatment and reconditioning of injured student-athletes. Possession of a baccalaureate or higher degree with emphasis in Patient Care or an academic major or minor subject matter fields with the needed courses to meet credential requirements.
CREDENTIAL/LICENSES: Must possess or be able to obtain a California preliminary designated CTE credential in Health Science and Medical Must possess or be able to obtain an EL authorization.
