The Charge Nurse provides direct care to patients under the direction of the nursing administration team

and is responsible for the supervision of nursing assistants and other non-licensed unit personnel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

 Provides direct patient care, including interventions and re-evaluation of patient outcomes.

 Participates in the admission/discharge/transfer process.

 Thoroughly documents clinical findings, assessments, and interventions.

 Administers prescribed medication(s) and treatment(s) in accordance with nursing standards and the

individual patient’s plan of care.

 Notifies patients/families/responsible parties of changes in patient clinical status.

 Communicates patient status to the Unit Manager and other members of the interdisciplinary team as

necessary.

 Review and investigate patient, family, and staff concerns; take action to resolve and prevent

reoccurrence.

 Ensures compliance with company policy as well as federal, state, and local regulations and guidelines.

 Effectively collaborates with medical staff and other departments to coordinate all aspects of patient

care.

 Supervises the delivery of care provided by nursing assistants.

 Identify training needs and communicate to Unit Manager or Staff Development Coordinator.

 Participates in training and/or precepting of new staff.

 Attends training, in-service education, and staff meetings.

 Attend patient/family meetings including care plans as necessary.

 Performs other duties as necessary for the successful operation of the healthcare center.

PREREQUISITES, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

 One year of previous nursing experience preferred.

 Management / leadership experience preferred.

 Active, unencumbered licensure as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse in the

state of employment.

 Ability to lead diverse team of individuals.

 Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

 Strong ability to make independent decisions and work without direct supervision.

 Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government personnel,

and the public.

 Must have thorough knowledge of current standards of nursing practice.

 Must be knowledgeable of computer systems and applications.

 Excellent customer service focus.
