Job Description

The Neuroscience (NS) Computational Biology team leverages state-of-the-art computational biology and AI/ML approaches to rigorously identify and evaluate disease–target–biomarker relationships in neuroscience. By integrating human genetics and large-scale multi-omics data, the team generates novel insights that drive drug discovery, indication expansion, and biomarker development.

As an NS Computational Biology Intern, you will develop and deliver computational pipelines to discover and validate genetic and multi-omics biomarkers relevant to neurodegenerative diseases. Your work will focus on genetic and omics data analysis, biomarker discovery, and the application of AI/ML methods.

Key responsibilities include:

Analyzing bulk and single-cell RNA-seq data.

Processing large-scale proteomics datasets (e.g., Olink, SomaScan, Nulisa).

Leveraging pathway and protein–protein interaction (PPI) networks to prioritize biomarkers across disease stages and therapeutic interventions.

Applying AI/ML techniques to develop composite biomarker scores with improved sensitivity and specificity.

This internship provides hands-on experience at the intersection of computational biology and drug discovery, building skills and knowledge essential for a career in the pharmaceutical industry.

How You Will Contribute:

During your internship, you will:

Analyze large-scale, well-characterized neurodegeneration cohorts (e.g., AMP-AD, AMP-PD, ADNI, UK Biobank).

Explore novel approaches to identify and validate peripheral biomarkers reflective of central nervous system disease processes and target engagement.

Apply AI/ML to enhance biomarker discovery and validation.

Design and implement analytic pipelines to improve efficiency and reproducibility.

Collaborate with scientists across diverse backgrounds, including biology, chemistry, and medicine, to maximize the impact of computational insights.

Internship Development Opportunities:

Collaborate closely with experienced scientists to advance computational biology expertise.

Gain exposure to applying AI/ML to address key challenges in neuroscience drug discovery.

Engage with cross-functional leaders across the pharmaceutical industry.

Build hands-on experience analyzing large-scale, patient-derived multi-omics datasets.

Job Requirements:

Preferred: PhD candidate in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering.

Strong foundation in statistics and AI/ML.

Experience in analyzing omics data (e.g., RNA-seq, proteomics).

Proficiency in programming languages such as R or Python.

Highly organized and deadline-driven, with strong problem-solving skills.

Excellent oral and written communication abilities, with the ability to collaborate in a cross-disciplinary environment.

Global mindset and ability to thrive in a diverse workplace.

This position will be hybrid, with occasional on-site meetings in Cambridge, MA for local candidates.
