Roles & Responsibilities :

Position Overview

The Heat Treatment and Surface Treatment Expert will act as the technical representative at an internal customer site, responsible for delivering advanced solutions in heat treatment and various surface engineering processes. With 8–10 years of industry experience, this expert will ensure process excellence, troubleshoot complex issues, optimize production, and bridge technical communication between the customer and company teams.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee and optimize heat treatment and surface treatment processes (e.g., carburizing, nitriding, annealing, hardening, shot blasting, painting, plating).

Conduct process audits, root-cause analysis, and corrective/preventive action implementation for process deviations and product failures.

Work closely with production, maintenance, engineering, and quality teams at the customer site to ensure products meet required mechanical and surface properties.

Serve as the primary technical contact for all heat treatment and surface engineering queries from the customer.

Develop, review, and validate process parameters and technical documentation (process sheets, Standard Operating Procedures, heat treatment charts, etc.).

Coordinate and support metallurgical and surface analysis using advanced laboratory equipment (hardness testers, microstructure analysis, surface roughness testers, etc.).

Lead or participate in continuous improvement projects focused on cycle-time reduction, energy savings, yield improvement, and waste minimization.

Train and mentor internal staff on best practices in heat and surface treatment technologies.

Ensure compliance to quality and environmental standards (e.g., ISO 9001, IATF 16949, ISO 14001).

Stay updated on industry advancements, new technologies, and standards relevant to materials engineering, heat treatment, and surface finishing.

Job Description

Educational qualification:

Bachelor’s (required) or Master’s (preferred) in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

Experience :

8–10 years of hands-on experience in heat treatment and/or surface treatment within the automotive, aerospace, machinery, or metals industry.

Mandatory/requires Skills :

Strong knowledge of various heat treatment and surface engineering processes (thermal, chemical, and mechanical treatments).

Experience with failure analysis techniques (fractography, microstructure analysis, etc.).

Familiarity with metallurgical laboratories, testing procedures, and relevant analytical tools.

Proficiency in reviewing technical drawings/specifications and translating them into robust process controls.

Exposure to continuous improvement methodologies (Six Sigma, Lean, Kaizen).

Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective interaction with internal and customer stakeholders.

Experience handling multiple projects/assignments simultaneously with a focus on process optimization.

Knowledge of international quality standards and customer-specific requirements

 

Preferred Skills :

Exposure to automation and digitalization in heat treatment and surface engineering processes.

Experience working as a resident or liaison technical specialist at customer locations.

Strong ability to prepare and deliver technical presentations and documentation for internal and external review.

Knowledge of global standards (ASTM, SAE, DIN, ISO, CQI-9 for heat treatment, etc.).
