JOB SUMMARY

The CCU Technician provides care to patients in the CCU under the supervision of the registered nurse.  This care focuses primarily on personal hygiene, nutritional needs, and activities of daily living.  The CCU tech performs receptionists, secretarial, housekeeping, and restocking duties and is a department communication liaison.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Assists with the patient’s physical, psychosocial, environmental, spiritual, social, and educational needs and supports the patient's plan of care throughout the patient’s stay.   (Adherence to policy, Problem Solving, Teamwork) Effectively communicates pertinent patient changes/conditions to the Registered Nurse and multidisciplinary team to achieve desired patient outcomes and documents in the electronic/paper medical record in an accurate/timely manner. Provides for patient comfort and safety and protects dignity, privacy, and confidentiality.  (Adherence to Policy) Communicates with internal/external customers/colleagues in a courteous, cheerful, empathic, and professional manner and accepts assignments willingly.  (Communication, Adaptability) Attends and participates in departmental/organizational meetings, in-services, and educational opportunities. Department meeting attendance requirement: 80% with 50% in person if department meetings are available by webinar. (Communication/Adherence to Policy) Serves as a steward for the hospital’s human and material resources.  Meets productivity expectations of unit/department as defined by unit manager.  Utilizes and maintains appropriate supplies in the department.  Supports staffing needs for patient care in multiple units, as needed, while being flexible with schedule and hours.  (Teamwork, Adherence to Policy, Adaptability) Adapts positively to the ever-changing healthcare environment by supporting technology and process changes.  Willing to learn new things, is open to change, and maintains a calm, positive manner under stressful conditions.   (Adaptability/Self-Aware) Performs technical skills as delegated.  Demonstrates proficiency in the use of equipment. (Continuous Learner.) Maintains required department confidentiality and abides by HIPPA regulations. Provides competent patient care to the above-indicated patient populations by obtaining and appropriately interpreting data, making appropriate decisions based on demonstrated knowledge of age-specific growth and development, and appropriately adapting procedures and treatments. Takes an active role in enhancing the ability to carry out job functions through personal and professional/job-related growth and development and participates in medical center and/or departmental education programs (Self-awareness). Communicates with and performs duties following the philosophy of Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa and the sisters of Mercy, reflecting the organization’s Mission, Values, and Guiding Behaviors. Supports and abides by all medical center, departmental, and safety policies and procedures.  Proactively identifies safety concerns surrounding the work environment. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

Serving on a house-wide committee task force Serving on unit-specific committees, promoting quality, patient care, skills/technical knowledge, individual development, and personal growth. Serves as a preceptor for new staff.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education [formal]:

 Completion of nursing assistant certification or currently enrolled in an A.D.N., BSN, program with successful completion of first semester of A.D.N. program, OR first-year completion of nursing courses in BSN OR graduate of an A.D.N., BSN or LPN program.

State of Iowa nurse aide registry listing as “Active” or eligible

Experience:  Nursing Assistant experience preferred. Basic computer skill required.

Special Skills and Competencies: Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and flexibility to meet department needs. Self-motivated and detail-oriented individual. Completes the following mandatory courses (check all that apply):

Must provide proof of Basic Life Support (BLS Healthcare Provider, American Heart Association, American Red Cross, Professional Rescuer-LIVE class only) via current card before employment or within 60 days of hire and maintain status.

Completes Mandatory Reporting: Child and Dependent Adult Abuse requirement within six months of hire and renews this requirement every five years.

Completes Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – American Heart Association within six months of hire and maintains status.

Completes Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) – American Heart Association within six months of hire and maintains status.

Completes Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – American Heart Association within six months of hire and maintains status.

Completes MANDT Training within six months of hire and maintains status.

Completes Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) within six months of hire and maintains current status.
